Compare this butter market hall from 1889 to what they make nowadays. Craftmanship at the turn of the 19th century was still valued in its own right. In this case wrought iron was used to make the place attractive (no blatant commercial advertising to buy this or that). Home made butter was sold here (no cheap industrial Unilever margarine). And look what have they done with this historic gem: they turned it into a place to park bicycles!

In the past this place was used to be a market where people selling their home made butter. In 1889 this covered open market hall was quite unique as it was made of cast iron, wood and glass. The architecture was inspired by renaissance form. It's nice to see it and know the history of it. This place is now become a bicycle storage

We came past this, while we were stolling through the old center of town. It is nice to see that they have restored or kept the old things such as this market, unfortunately there was nothing happening here......

This is a 19th century roof where the butter market used to be. Nice to see. Close to the Proosdij, which is the oldest stone building in the Netherlands, so good to take a tour past both old buildings.

This is a piece of history that is worth saving. It is the old butter market of Deventer and it is located in the center of town. Hopefully no official in his or her right mind will ever try to redevelop this part of Deventer's history for financial gain.
