About
The shopping area in Zaandam offers everything for a day of great shopping. Since a few years the city centre has transformed into an interesting architectural area. The traditional houses are mixed up with modern day aspects. When arriving by train, the first thing you see is the world famous Inntel Hotel. Next to it is the city's town hall. From here you walk straight into the shopping area!

Great spot to walk especially when it is sunny it is beautiful 😍, walk around and take several pictures and there are shops and small cafes.
I thought it was bigger, on the other hand the Q Park car park was excessively expensive you have to count everywhere at least 20€ of parking.. This is HUGE

If you plan to go, don't waste time. The village is a great shopping center without any interest. What is in the photos is just a building next to the station that you see in 5 minutes. It's not worth the effort to catch the train to get there.

The train to Zaanser schans stops at this pleasant little town. Right next to the station are the houses with the cool architecture. Among other things Inntel hotel which looks like an upside down rental house.

Very colorful and characteristic place. We stopped after the morning spent in Zaanse Schans (area with the mills) to take a walk among these characteristic houses. The area is very small, but personally it is a must-do stop.

The station and the hotel outside are coloured in the distinctive green that characterises the houses in Zaan Region.
The hotels exterior has all the seventy different gables. The effect it creates can be described as surreal to say the least.

The station and the hotel have been rebuilt over recent years with very striking "Doll's House" architecture. Very interesting though not many town planners would allow it! Everything very handy from the shops, hotels, station, etc. Whole area been rebuilt and redesigned and looks fantastic.

Stadshart Zandaam, so downtown Zandaam (and not the Zaanse Schans where the mills are located. Not to be confused).
Disappointing place, certainly the architecture is atypical and intriguing (it looks like Disneyland), but it remains more beautiful in photo. The pedestrian street is pointless. At the end, a lively place with bars and restaurants in the evening (and probably a lot at night). Go above and beyond, or go your way. Not worth the trip.

Most of the review is about Zaanse Schans, a village with windmills. And also all the pictures are not correct. The Stadshart Zaandam is a very nice shopping centre, 3 minutes walk from the train station. The "green" buildings such as inntel hotels and the town hall are an eye-catcher. It is an exceptional architecture. The Stadshart Zaandam offers you all kind of shops and restaurants, supermarket and even a casino. The water in the middle of the area with all the bridges make this place very nice to see.

Nice little town worth a visit, we stayed a couple of days, nice cafes and resturants and beautiful along the river, very close to a lot of tourist attraction's the only thing that is really really terrible is all the motorbikes and mopeds that constantly are running around the centre and bumping up onto the pavements when you are walking, they seem to be all delivering all types of food and are constantly sitting outside snack bars and restaurants, the centre of the town is actually to small for all these smelly noisey motorbikes, and i am quite surprised that they are not made to use Electric bikes or at least Electric motorbikes/mopeds as the Dutch people are very environmentally conscious, In Amsterdam and Delft i did notice that these food pizza deliveries are now done with Electric bikes,
Anyway for the rest it is a lovely town and very close to Amsterdam, a total shame about the mopeds, it does spoil the ambiance of the town.
