On the Edam-Volendam municipality site there is a list of free parking sites. The very first is the Marina park adjacent parking (as named on the site). We left the car for about three hours, there were no parking machines, no indications, no signs. When we came back we had a fine of 104 euros on our windshield and as we saw others had made the same mistake with us..
Shame... it was so simple to have clear information...

Our group toured this small and quaint fishing village. Volendam, has become a popular tourist destinations for the town's pretty architecture. Lots of shops selling souvenirs and eateries to sample dutch cuisines.
Recommended by our guide to taste the herrings burger and we also sampled the waffels and fried seafood which were quite good.

Beautiful and picturesque place where I wish I had time to sit longer. Nice shops and restaurants with very affordable prices compared to other tourist places we went to. Treated houses, clean place with beautiful bronze statues to decorate along the marina.

I wish I had more time in Volendam--it was probably my favorite of the Dutch cities near Amsterdam. We didn't see nearly enough of the town, which looked like it was frozen in time. We walked down the main strip after lunch and visited the marina, which was very picturesque. Had I known our group would go by there anyway on our way to our bus, I would have seen more of the town, but I'm still glad I went!

A trip to Marina Volendam, sightseeing in its fishing village, taking the Volendam Marken Express to Marken, and sightseeing in Marken makes for a cool outing. There are many nice boats in the marina, and it was nice sightseeing in Volendam. The town on Markermeer Lake has the wooden houses painted in traditional Dutch colours. It is a fishing village, with lots of vendors selling fresh seafood. The marina is home to many Dutch fishing vessels. Many of the locals dress in traditional Volendam clothing, likely for the sightseers, who contribute a lot to the local economy. The village is famous for its cheese factory and museum, where you can learn some of the local history of Volendam cheese-making, and purchase some of its cheese. Volendam’s bronze statues make for great photo ops.

The people who live along the shore must be very proud of their well kept houses and front windows which look carefully planned and displayed. But be sure to walk away from the water though. Go a couple of blocks into the city itself to find more treasures like swans gracing the shores and water of canals.

Lovely place to stroll around, sit on a terrace and watch people go by. You can take the boat to Marken from here too. Shops sell the usual tourist stuff. Good for 2 hours.

If you have the time definitely take a trip to Volendam. It is easily Reachable by bus from the central train station and it only takes about a half hour to get there. With the bus ticket you can also go to Edam which is the next town over. I didn’t have time for that.

A short walk from the bus stop is the marina which is a delightful place to walk. There is a shop that shows you how cheese is made with lots of samples there are plenty of restaurants to sit down and either have a quick breakfast or lunch and overlooks the marina. And of course there’s plenty of gift shops to get souvenirs. You can also take a ferry to the to the island nearby.
One of my best lunches was had here from a food truck that had a wonderful assortment of seafood. The price was outlandishly reasonable and the food, I had card was like delectable and delicious. I only wish I had ordered some for Takeaway! A definite must have anyone in Amsterdam

As you walk from the marina back to the bus stop there is an absolutely outstanding bakery that you should Stop into and definitely take a pastry or two with you. It was at standing.
