We went on a day tour from Amsterdam to the surrounding countryside and Marken was one of our stops. We arrived by car and our guide told us that you are not allowed to park your car inside the village so you have to park in a supervised car park at the entrance to the village and walk in from... You can reach Marken, a former island in two ways. By ferry from Volendam, and by car via the causeway. We came by car, and you cannot enter the village itself if you're not a resident. At the entrance is a big parking lot (it was free of charge, maybe because it was Feb). From there you have 5 min... More

Walk around and see the little harbour (very little) and lighthouse. You may even see people in traditional costume and wearing clogs whilst riding a bicycle!

A must for all travelers visiting Amsterdam. Lovely country side views with brooks and lakes and small wooden houses.

Need to go there in period from April till October, when is everything blumming, and open! Lots of nice places for taking a walk and ti eat and to have a good cup of hot chocolate. Just take a bus from central station of Amsterdam and it will take 30min drive. Every hour you have return bus. You will not... More

Went here with my parents, it was a lovely trip into the scenic country side of the Netherlands. Had some fresh sea food too at one of the local stores. Cheese store demo was a nice touristy thing. Definitely good experience for people travelling to Netherlands and want to do something other than roaming streets of Amsterdam.

The countryside tour at its best. we took one of those day tours from one of the day tours company. You would find red booths all across Amsterdam. Only thing is you need to book 24 hours in advance with them. The first stop of our tour was this small B'ful fishermen village. We just couldn't take our eyes off... More

Two friends and I wanted to get away from Amsterdam for the day to search for a traditional, quaint Dutch village. All our friends from Holland suggested Marken and we're so glad they did. From my short five days in Holland, this was my favorite. I could have walked those streets all day and been perfectly happy.

We took the bus down to Marken during the late afternoon-and it was perhaps the wrong time of the day to visit because we were not able to appreciate the beauty of the place. Better to come in the morning.

a small beautiful island close to Amsterdam, a perfect location for family day-out. small houses with narrow canals makes it a fairy tale village. there is a wooden shoe factory which demonstrates the typical Dutch shoe preparation. a ship ride to Volendam (famous Dutch fisihing village) from Marken would make your day complete.
