About
The Watertaxi was founded in 2011 to entice visitors of the harbour to park their cars outside the city and transport them by boat from there to the centre of the city and the harbour. While sailing they admire the beautiful ancient buildings, canals, locks and how the city was originated. As a result of the enthusiastic reactions we started to offer boat tours where the boatman guides you through all this beauty in your own language. This kind of tours usually last 60 minutes. On board you can enjoy wine, chilled beer and soft drinks, all for free. On request we can also provide little snacks or fulfil other wishes. Boats; Our first boat, we started with, is a beautiful Norwegian aluminium lifeboat from 1956. This is exactly the right size to pass the lowest bridges and to get to the best spots in town and is also suitable for the Markermeer. The boat can accommodate 12 guests. Since 2015 we have, as a second boat, a fully electric one, suitable for 18 people. Environmentally friendly and wonderful quiet, so you and your party can enjoy even more. You rather cruise by yourself? We have also an electric boat for rent, so you can be your own skipper and discover Hoorn at your own pace.

You can book all kinds of short tours or sightseeing directly at the harbour or via phone. They always try to meet your specific needs. If you want to see the small canals in town, or you want to go to the beach or marina, just ask and you will be surprised how friendly the crews are. If you have a small budget, a familytrip, a need for a sunsetcruise, they do it all. Highly recommendable...

I love canal tours, I've done them in many cities around the Netherlands. This may be the best I've been on: quiet, emission-free open boat, free drinks included, wonderful scenery and above all: a very friendly, knowledgeable skipper that loves his job!
The city of Hoorn may be overlooked by tourists, but it has a very rich history, explained in (great) detail during the 1-hour trip. At times, it's even hard to take in.
At those times, just enjoy the old warehouses gliding by and the spectacularly low bridge.

All this at a very reasonable price, highly recommended.

That was an amazing experience. I really like the friendly accommodating people in the management.

We will come again with the family for another longer excursion.

The brothers managing these watertaxi trips are friendly and warm. I promise myself another relaxing tour before I leave this city. Loved it

Thank you very much for your recommendation. It was our pleasure to show you the secret outdoor spot 'Oranje Buiten' and later the canals. We hope to see you again!

We had an amazing tour! Our Skipper told us all about the history of Hoorn and we got to see stunning old architecture and boats. We went on a glorious sunny day and sipped prosseco, warmed by orange fleece blankets when a cool breeze hit. The gentle motions put my baby to sleep while my 3 year old got to steer! We would do this again!

Thank you for your visit to Hoorn. What a co-incidence you rented the house close to us! Happy that we could also bring you to Volendam te day after your canal tour. If in Hoorn once again, I would like to offer an other excursion! Best, Bram

We stayed in the new van de Valk hotel just out side the town of Hoorn it was as I expected from this chain very good the staff and the service were very good as I had anticipated from them as the building was brand new .
We went into the town on Saturday as there was a market around the hole town which was good to see,we had coffee in the Main Street on the terrace of a cafe de posthoorn
Then we walked around the market for an hour or so then we stopped at the harbour at the restaurant Marque for a snack then we walked to the inner harbour and had the boat ride around the harbour it was so hot but a breeze from the water made it a little less unbearable in the sun.
We then went along the westerdijk on the bikes we had hired which was great but I did not realise how out of condition I was as after that ride all
I wanted to do was lay down as I was sore all over,so we went back to the hotel so I could lay in the bath to recover, it was a really great day and a bike is good way to see a lot more of Holland but don't do to much as I did to my regret as it took a day or two before I was walking as normal again.

Wonderful tour. Hoorn is a beautiful place. The boat captain, Marcel, was great and very knowledgeable. The young lady who runs the office if super friendly and very efficient. Unlike the downtown Amsterdam tours, this tour is great value for money. On a nice day, this is a little taste of heaven. After the tour, do go and try the burgers at Cafe 't Schippershuis.

This water taxi tour was one of the highlights of our visit to the Netherlands. Our guide shared information about the buildings and history. He even provided insights into why the buildings had big hooks (to lower the cheese), the underwater parking garage and the role Hoorn played in the 80 years war with Spain. Getting to go under some low bridges was fun, too.
The pace was just slow enough to hear all the stories but also fast enough to not get bored. The tour included coffee, tea, wine and beer which was a nice touch. Being able to join the tour at any of its stops saved us some walking at the end of a long day. It was necessary to hail the taxi driver to let him know we wanted to join the tour. This tour was very good value for the cost.

I’ve taken this tour twice to show friends and family around. I live in the Historic Haven district of Hoorn. It is well worth the price. You get free drinks during the hour tour, you can pick red or white wine, soda, water. I thought it’s a good deal. The views from the water are fantastic. And much closer view of a replica of the Halve Man ship that sailed here from New York at the turn of 19th century. I didn’t even know that New York used to be New Amsterdam if not for the skipper of one of the tours I’d taken. I always just thought the town is a VOC (Dutch East India Company) hub, apparently, they also were WIC (Dutch West India Company) hub as well. Truly a world class town that preserved its heritage well.
I took a star off because the skippers only speak heel een beetje Engels, they say, so the tours were mostly only in Dutch.

Dear Ice Queen, Thank you for your nice recommendation. It might happen that the tour is (mainly) in Dutch when most of our guests are Dutch. As we have 25 skippers we can offer tours in German, Englisch, French, Spanish and Italian on request. As we have more boats we can also divide the group and guide one in German (for example) and one in English. Glad you enjoyed the tour and appreciate our concept. Best, Bram Nijenhuis Watertaxi Hoorn
