If you are at all interested in botany, or just like to walk in peace amongst beautiful trees, do not miss the pinetum. Apparently this is one of the most complete collections of conifers in the world, ccontaining more than 300 different varieties - California redwoods, cedars, monkey puzzle trees, Chinese 'water cipres', yews, junipers...
All trees are labelled with Latin names and some interesting information in both Dutch and English. Critically endangered species are highlighted.
In addition to the conifers, there are many rhododendrons (well worth seeing in the spring I should think) and a beautifully planted fish pond surrounded by ferns and pitcher plants. A mesozic era jungle in Hilversum - who'd have thought it!
Entrance costs 2.50 euros for adults. 1 euro for children. Free on Wednesdays! An absolute bargain!
There is a visitors' centre/cafe - but I think it is only open at weekends.
The pinetum is within easy walking distance of the shopping centre and the Dudok town hall.

PINETUM BLIJDENSTEIN is a relaxing walk if you are in the Hilversum area.I enjoyed it,s silent atmosphere but would say that I can understand why many prefer the flowers of other gardens 2,50 entry fee.
Nearby is an other botanical garden with flowers: Costerustuin on Zonnelaan 4 Hilversum; free entry for this botanical garden

The Pinetum is a very lovely and quiet place in the hart of Hilversum. Ideal for a sunday picknick or a strawl between the many tree species.

The Pinetum Blijdenstein is a very beautiful botanical garden with an exceptional collection of conifers (nearly 400 different varieties, which makes it one of the most complete collections worldwide), rhododendrons and many more. It was founded some 100 years ago. It is situated in a nice and quiet area of Hilversum.
