If you are at all interested in botany, or just like to walk in peace amongst beautiful trees, do not miss the pinetum. Apparently this is one of the most complete collections of conifers in the world, ccontaining more than 300 different varieties - California redwoods, cedars, monkey puzzle trees, Chinese 'water cipres', yews, junipers... All trees are labelled with Latin names and some interesting information in both Dutch and English. Critically endangered species are highlighted. In addition to the conifers, there are many rhododendrons (well worth seeing in the spring I should think) and a beautifully planted fish pond surrounded by ferns and pitcher plants. A mesozic era jungle in Hilversum - who'd have thought it! Entrance costs 2.50 euros for adults. 1 euro for children. Free on Wednesdays! An absolute bargain! There is a visitors' centre/cafe - but I think it is only open at weekends. The pinetum is within easy walking distance of the shopping centre and the Dudok town hall.…

PINETUM BLIJDENSTEIN is a relaxing walk if you are in the Hilversum area.I enjoyed it,s silent atmosphere but would say that I can understand why many prefer the flowers of other gardens 2,50 entry fee.
