After studying several bike tour companies online, we settled on Holland Bike Tours for our adventure with friends, two other couples. Four of our group were meeting us in Haarlem after hiking in the UK and they wanted to extend the bike tour a couple days after my husband and I would be finished. Holland Bike Tours was very accommodating and had no trouble arranging the hotel and bike rentals. My husband and I let Holland Bike Tours know what we wanted to do - basically a loop that would take a week and end where we started, and they did the rest! We started in Haarlem, then rode on to Leiden, then to Delft, two days in Gouda, then to Noorden and finally to Haarlem again. Each day was roughly 45 km riding which wasn't much trouble as it's pretty flat, and left us some time to explore our new city and find a nice place for dinner!
Holland Bike Tours took care of transferring our luggage from hotel to hotel, and they lined up our hotels for us. We had asked for 3-5 star accommodation and were extremely happy with what we got. They were easy to locate, clean, comfortable, quiet and well appointed. The maps and GPS provided were accurate and we only got lost a few times! The bikes were in excellent condition - we had both regular road bikes and e-bikes - and each of us was provided with a panier to carry our every day stuff. We even got very nice water bottles!
Everyone we met in the office at Holland Bike Tours was friendly and helpful. We were in contact with the ever patient Meike for months setting the trip up, and we met Emiel and Helma when we were picking up the bikes and getting started. Forgive me if I have neglected to name anyone else who helped us, or got a name wrong!
We would definitely recommend Holland Bike Tours to our friends, and would look to them again for any further bike tours.

Outstanding experience! Emiel and his team were very good at understanding our wishes and made a super job in preparing a semi-customized tour for us.
The material (bikes and accessories) are in excellent shape and super well maintained. Routes very well planned, with many options. The team was super reactive in answering all our requests - can only warmly recommend it!

I recently returned from a two week custom bike tour, carefully and beautifully plotted by Holland Bike Tours. I recommend this company to anyone dreaming of biking through The Netherlands.
It's always been a goal to see the tulip fields in bloom, and I love biking. I looked at other bike tour companies online, but I chose Holland Bike Tours because of their "custom tour" option. I contacted them and said, "I want to see windmills, tulips, and cheese!" and they were wonderful to work with. They asked questions about my biking style, preferences, and goals, and used the info to design a tour that fit me just right. I had a couple of changes to the towns I wanted to see, and they were gracious to juggle my itinerary around before the tour began.
The tour itself was better than I'd imagined. There's no way that I'd be able to plan anything with map apps. Holland Bike Tours is a Dutch family-owned business with two generations of Dutch biking experience, and when they say they know the best bike routes, it's no lie. Their carefully-planned routes went alongside canals, passed by historic farms, led me to windmills, took me to centuries-old city centers, through sand dunes, past tulip fields exploding with color, along the coast, through national parks, past sleepy cows and baby lambs.
Holland Bike Tours ensures the best quality in every detail. I appreciate it very much.

I absolutely loved this bike trip. We did the Old Towns and Villages tour which I would recommend. Each day was a bit different in terms of the sites and bike trails which was nice. The bikes themselves were so much better than my bikes at home! They were very comfortable and the GPS was easy to use. The distances we rode were totally doable, so you don't need to be an athlete, but you still got a workout. The bnb's were all different as well so the variety was appreciated. Some of them were so fancy I couldn't believe it, and all the hosts were so lovely and welcoming. The trip is well priced given what you get for your money. I want to highlight the excellent communication of the staff - we communicated with them over the course of the pandemic, as we were supposed to do this trip in 2020. Our contact was so responsive, flexible, and helpful. We were also given the contact information of a staff member during the trip; he checked in on us and was quick to respond if we needed something. We also followed many of their suggestions (e.g., eating lunch at a particular restaurant) which enhanced the trip. The itinerary that was provided to us was very detailed so you always knew what you were doing and what to expect.
If I were to do it again, I would have slowed down the trip and spend 2 days in each town (we did for some but not all). We had limited time so that's why we did the trip in 6 days. But if you have more time, that's my recommendation. I would highly recommend this company and I would do another one of their tours in the future.

An amazing way to make our first trip to see the Netherlands! The tour was flawlessly routed and rerouted when we suddenly made a change to our itinerary. It was obvious that the routes had been very well researched and travelled by the trip planner at Holland bike Tours. The staff was very conscientious and made sure we (pretty novice bicyclists) were well acquainted with the bikes and the navigational aids before sending us on our way with complimentary stroopwaffles. The planners gave us suggestions and advice when needed and really worked hard to give us a beautiful experience in Holland. We visited 5 cities in 6 days and the hotels we booked by the company were lovely and the breakfasts were great and included. They provided panniers for our travel supplies and even could move additional luggage for us city to city to have it at our hotel when we arrived. The bikes were great, and easy to get used to. We had one eco bike for me, so I could keep up with my husband on the regular bike. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to tour at your own pace and really see so much more than just the city life!

Outstanding experience for us, great value and personal touch. Excellent hotel arrangements (we took standard rooms) that feel luxurious but at a great price, and well located within town centers and accounting for your inbound and outbound travel plans. Holland bike tours is super responsive and helpful, supporting us from our first email contact, throughout our travel, until the day we came home. Examples: helping with covid test arrangements for our flight back to U.S, and updating our GPS files when we needed a change halfway through our trip. Excellent quality/fitting bikes. We loved our routes through Holland, they were well curated (I couldn’t have done it as well, no matter how much/long I might have researched). This is a great value! We are two medium road-bikers (about 1500 miles each per year), and liked the 30-40 mile per day pace, leaving lots of time to enjoy the food and sightseeing.

Honestly one of the best experiences of my life! The service we received, the attention to our requirements, the quality of the bikes, the flexibility and communication exceeded every expectation. We tried a few service providers - all had a set menu. Holland Bike Tours FAR outperformed them all from the initial booking onwards. I felt sad handing the bikes back and saying goodbye to people who truly cared!

Just finished a “bucket list” 300km custom cycle tour with my older brother, including a loop south from Haarlem through Noorden, Gouda, Leiden and a loop north through Enkhuisen, Hoorn, Edam. The team at Holland Bike Tours were a pleasure to work with. They listened carefully and built a great trip that was exactly what we wanted. All the hotels were great: premium rooms, well located in the city center and each uniquely local in its own way. My brother liked Boutique Hotel Staats in Harlem best while I liked Watergeus in Noorden best for its lakefront patio dining. Bikes were perfect with an adjustable riser bar so we could cycle upright and take in more scenery. Trip route was great and exactly what we wanted for distance, polders, canals, waterfront, avoiding big cities and crowds, no clog or cheese factories . Highlights for us were: 1) Enkhuizen and its Zuiderzee museum with historic old town 2) the cycle from Enkhuisen along the sea north from there to the beautiful town of Medemblik 3) Leiden and Jacobs Pattiserie in Leiden which had by far the best gluten free sweets of anywhere we visited 4) cycling from Leiden north through the sand dunes of the national park. Didn’t enjoy Vollendam, Marken, Zaanse Schansor or other crowded/kitsch places on the Amsterdam tour bus/cruise ship excursion circuit. Holland Bike Tours followed up with us during our trip to make sure everything was going okay, and made adjustments at our request. Overall Holland Bike Tours delivered the “bucket list” experience I was seeking and I can’t recommend them highly enough.

Recently went through a divorce and was looking to spread my wings and take a solo trip and read a book that inspired me to travel to the Netherlands. Found Holland Bike Tours very quickly in my internet searches and so glad I did! From the moment I sent my first “feeler” email, they immediately responded back with great information and within a week I had a great trip planned. I had a snag when the Dutch government required US citizens to quarantine and had to cancel, only to have the government walk back on the order 2 weeks later. Meicke and Emiel handled it all in stride when I rebooked for only a few weeks later. I knew I was in good hands when I met Emiel personally the night before my ride from Haarlem to Bruges and he checked me out with my equipment. We had a drink together and discussed my trip and was quite enamored to the personal level of service. The level of attention and detail is second to none. I had an absolutely life changing experience biking across the Netherlands, the hotels they picked were all top notch, their restaurant and activity recommendations were spot on and the whole entire journey was extremely pleasant to say the least!! I have already booked another flight to the Netherlands for May and can’t wait to see what Holland Bike Tours has planned for me! Absolutely top notch company and cannot say enough good things about!!

My 10 year old daughter and I decided upon a one week tour where we accomplished 210kms in this time. At the begining it was difficult (we were only city cyclist) but by the end of the week we were cycling like profi's.
The tour was sensationally planned, we drove through so many tranquil, rural and urban landscapes. We are now fans of Holland. It is pretty much flat the whole way so all you have to do is check out the wonderful scenery that surrounds you. The bikes, the planning, the assistance, pretty much everything was top. I thoroughly enjoyed the expereience and it will be a holiday my daughter and I will never forget. Haarlem was by far my favourite city.

Did you return to your initial destination via train? Can you list cities you visited? Any you would have skipped? Thanks so much.
We bike and run (20 miles on bike and 4 mile run on alternate days) We are in late 60s.
Did you leave part of your luggage somewhere?

Our tour started in Haarlem and ended at a train station just outside of Amsterdam. The route included a range of distances between 27 and 38 miles per day. Our route looked like this: Haarlem - Edam - Haarlem - Leiden - Delft - Gouda - Utrecht - Abcoude (train station). This itinerary gave us a wide variety of scenery. The only thing I'll mention is that we had not anticipated the strong winds we encountered one day (25 mph sustained with 48 mph gusts). Yes - I know they have windmills but we were just not prepared. I'm sure you'll have a great time !!! There's no place like The Netherlands for cycling accommodation!

Dear Ruth, I think we can certainly create a great tour for you. We usually do moderate distances of 25 mi / 40 km per day which gives you enough time for sightseeing and stops along the way. If you could contact us through our website, we can work out a detailed itinerary and pricing for you!

Hi dsky227, we are doing a trip with HBT in early June. We are also cyclists from the US. Did you take clip in pedals? If not, do you recommend it? Thinking we'd take Mtn bike shoes/clips that are easier to walk around in, yet make biking more efficient. Any other thoughts or tips would be great. We've not done a trip like this, as we usually take our bikes on trips. Looking forward to the adventure! Thanks for any info.
Written May 14, 2018
We did not bring our clip-in pedals. If you do, I highly recommend using Mtn/touring shoes. There are just so many things to see/do. We rode for a bit... saw a cool looking square... hopped off our bikes. Rode a bit... saw a cool church. So, we were on and off our bikes a ton. And taking a very leisurely pace. It wasn't about getting from Point A to Point B... It was about being in the moment and enjoying the journey. Our average day was about 30 miles and our average moving speed was like 10mph. Also - the recreational bikes that we rented are Dutch style bikes. High riser handlebars. Wide seats. You're sitting straight up. Very different from any bike setup that I've ever owned. It reminds me of an old 3 speed set up. I just don't know if you'll appreciate the efficiency of the clip in pedals. Hope that helps. Have a great time.

Dear Vicky, my apologies for the late response. Dutch summers are mild with temperatures of 20 - 25 C / 70 -75 F and fairly dry. Between the compact historic towns there's load of green with birds, sheep, cows and other animals. If you have any other questions, just let us know!

Hi, we are looking at this as a possibility for next year. I have a 6 and an 8 year old, is there any tours that you would recommend in particular for us?
Thanks

They tailor make tours for you. If you tell them you have an eight year old and want to travel so many km a day they will do so accordingly .
