You see a film in the beginning of your tour that helps you understand something about the artist, his life, motive and style. The museum goes into how restoration is going on currently on some of the paintings and why you can not take pictures of the restoration process. Very few places to sit down. Audio tour included which helps... More

He is one of my most favorite painters, his palet, his stroke and master of portrets. The museum and surrounding is a perfect match. Don't miss it'.

We went there with the family. This relatively little museum in the heart of Haarlem is a real little gem. The works of art do reminiscent the works of art in the Rijks museum. Therefore it is a real gem worth visiting. The museum is organised in a very orderly manner. The big 'shutterstukken' wel elaborated and explained, while the... More

Frans Hals Museum is one of my favorite in the Netherlands. Enjoy van Ruisdael, Jan Steen en Saenredam especially. Museum itself is located in a former old mens home dating back 16th century. You can still feel the sadnes and sorrow, but looking at Jan Steen it makes you happy. Definitely a worth you while to visit.

This museum is not very big, likewise the city of Haarlem, but it's beautiful and has fantastics paintings. Friendly staff, out tour guide was amazing and there is also a cafe to seat and relax. A must see in Haarlem.

While visiting in Haarlem, a trip to Frans Hals Museum is a must. It is just a short walk from the Lion D"Or. The museum contains most of the works of Frans Hals and a few other local artist form the 16th and 17th period.

The beauty of this museum is multifold. Superb location in Haarlem. Beautiful architecture. Great heritage (when it was first built (1607-1611), it was used as a building for housing elderyly men and later orphans were housed in the building). Very differently decorated rooms (colors, materials, floors, ceilings). Informative complimentary audio tour (in multiple languages). The funniest painting is about the... More

The Frans Hals museum has some of the best portraits of Dutch burghers in the 17th century anywhere in the world. It is not so famous as the Rijksmuseum and much much smaller but should not be missed if you like art.
