This is a wonderful, manageable museum with paintings of both Frans Hals and other Dutch masters. There are also rooms with antique furnishings and an original old pharmacy. The day we were there, a concert of selections from Handel's Water Music was being played in...More

In terms of paintings the best museum in Haarlem. Take at least 2 hours to see the whole area and all its beautiful paintings.

The museum has a special seasonal display on at the moment. Every year art students are invited to design vases which are then kept full of stunning fresh flowers in keeping with the art and history of the museum - glorious. Took more photos of...More

We visited the Frans hals museum to see the floral exhibition and were not disappointed. They were stunning. Unfortunately the paintings left me cold. But worth a visit anyway.

This is a most appealing museum. The film on Frans Hals is informative, which was just as well as I admit to having known little about him, and the audio guides are helpful. It has quite an extensive collection, housed in a lovely old, typically...More

The Frans Hals Museum opened at 11 on the day we went and there was a knot of people waiting to get in. The building is charming--a seventeenth century almshouse that the artist actually stayed in when he was down and out. The most unusual...More

We are not very knowledgable about art, but this was an interesting museum for us. The audio guide was excellent, giving us, along with the wonderfull portraits, a real perspective into local Dutch culture and history of the past 4or500 years or so. The flower...More

A fabulous museum, but do allow plenty of time, the intro film takes 16 minutes and there are lots of pictures to view before you get the Frans Hal's. They give you a great audio guide so enjoy it.

To be honest, I do not have a great knowledge of the work of Frans Hals. After going to this museum, however, I have a much greater understanding and appreciation for this Haarlem native's work. He was a master of portraits, but specialized in the...More

I will summarize this museum in one word: Amazing. If the Netherlands has Van Gogh and Amsterdam has Rembrandt, Haarlem has Frans Hals ! I confess I wasn’t expect much of it, but I was wrong. It is simply beautiful, very organized, very intimate, rich,...More

Take the train from Amsterdam Central station to Haarlem main station. Walk into the centre and walk on to the second bridge, don't cross that bridge but turn left along the canal and take the second street on the left. It... More
