One of the great peaceful places in the centre, so quiet and historical. The place were the archers in the old days were practicing their warcraft.
In the back of the square is a secret passage to the New Church, a nice sneak out of this place!

We have been searching for this court for a while and finally found it. You walk straight from a busy shopping street through a gate into the court and you enter an oase of peace and quiet. The people who live there are happy here. There is a beautiful image in the middle.

This must be the most beautiful of the many Hofjes in Haarlem. The Hofjes are former almshouses, usually about a dozen small houses built around a central courtyard. The gardens are beautifully kept, there’s a small water pump, a few trees, and you feel transported into a different world. You can’t “do”anything - you just silently look and admire.

Haarlem is known for many courts, called "Hofjes" and has more than a dozen. It is worth your while to dig into its history and discover how it all has changed over the centuries and what functionality it had. In the fifteenth century, the catholic women's monastery Saint Michiel was the place of the Provencal Court. During the time of the Reformation - the nuns were chased by the Protestants. It became a man's Inn in 1682. The history is long and to see how it played an important part in the history of Haarlem is fascinating.

Nice for a stroll or with a bike. The town center is full of stores and folks and also beer places. Overall highly recommended.

Directly next to the busy shopping main street one can find this field surrounded by tiny houses. A peaceful place in the city center.
