Small Public Tour to Texel Island

1 review
Visit the island of Texel in world heritage Wadden Sea. The island is ideal for anyone wanting to discover its unspoilt nature and picturesque villages.

This small public group tour for maximum six travelers departs from Amsterdam. The first stop is Den Helder, where you embark the ferry to the island, crossing unesco's Wadden Sea. Once there the e-bikes are used for getting around! The total cycling route takes about 1.5 - 2 hrs (excl stops). Cycle, slowly, among sheep that graze on the Wadden Sea Dyke, as the bicycle path leads to a farmhouse from 1684. Try the typical Texel's pancake, made by the same family that bought the thatched roofed farmhouse over a century ago.

Make a stop in Den Burg, a quaint village where you have some personal time. The local shop makes their own ice cream from fresh milk from the Texel cows. Then it’s time to cycle back to the pier and the drive back to Amsterdam.

Escape mass-tourism and go off-the-beaten path with this marvellous experience.

This may sound like a weird combination, museum and aquarium, but it is presented wonderfully. A North Sea aquarium, showing what lives in the water, and a museum that presents a magnificent display of what has happened over the centuries near this naval stronghold. A great experience, really recommendable!

We visited the museum and the aquarium in February 2020, but were a bit disappointed after the good reviews on TripAdvisor. The whole place would need a little upgrade! For international visitors, it would be really helpful, if information for the museum exhibits would be available not only in Dutch, but in English as well.

Much of it in Dutch so I didn’t get the full benefit. Fascinating all the same. Realise how little i know of European history.

Since it was 30+ degrees we decided to visit the museum and aquarium. The aquarium was lovely and the museum was small but informative. Since our baby was unrestful we stopped by the cantiene for a drink and to let her rest. A cantiene letter sign dropped off and was assured by regulars that it was normal and put it to the side. The boy behind the counter did not react. Minutes later an older woman came to my parrner to show him how to put it back and when he stated that is not his Job AND he would not want to damage it and have to play for it. She embarassed my partner infront of other customers and after spending 20+ euros abd being there for an hour we were too embarassed to stay. For a woman who bragged to have worked there for nearly 30+ years she should have better customer service and the fort should fix their sign not their customers. Never going again.

Decided to walk there from the Centre of town a lovely walk when the weather is good. Visited the Fort and although it all looks very interesting there are no English translations on any of the exhibits. I believe there may be English tours but no information on this was given. I think it would be a good family outing.
