We went to see the Great Indonesian exhibition , De Grote Indonesie tentoonstelling, as my partner comes from indo hertiage, sadly it was not that great. the venue is a fantastic venue for exhibits, sadly they did not succeed with this one.

It was expensive to get, ( I had my musuem card and pain the 3 euro supplement, sadly my partner left his at home and it cost around 25, 00 eur to get in). It seems from the start of the exibit that it was going to be quite, good. However after to pass the relic and beautiful sculputures, then then turn to the battle for the freedom of Indonesia and its people from the rule of the Dutch and British and the battles for that as well as ongoing struggles, so it went from being very interesting for a short while to becoming VERY preachy and actual quite dull. It was good that they mentioned these struggles as its very important, however they went a bit to far with it and it soon, put you off.

To say it was disappointing is an understatement, it could have been great, however they focused so much on the battle for independence that it lost all momentum and in the end a rather boring exhibition on what could have been a spectacular exhibition on Indonesian history and Culture.
They missed a great chance, and really ruined what could have been great, into something that was boring and Preachy.
I am glad they brought up the fight for freedom however they went overboard and that turned it into one of the most boring and dullest exhibitions, I have seen. it could have been great, but it turned in to sad and boring and certinly NOT WORTH the price of entry.
SAD AND DISAPPOINTING.

When we visited the church there was an exhibition of press photos. The pictures and stories behind were beautifully presented.
The church is also interesting in itself if you like it. Unfortunately, this day there were craftsmen inside, which gave a lot of noise and parts of the church were for the same reason locked off.
Entrance is free with the City Card. I didn't go in there at full cost.

What a rip-off 10 euro pp for the entrance of a church that is completely wrapped and dug open inside. I understand that maintenance needs to be done but please reduce the price!! Possibly the most beautiful church in Amsterdam but currently there is really too little to see!

Fabulous and famous Church located in Dam Square (to the right/back of the square). Nieuwe actually stands for "New" church yet it was built in the 15th Century in comparison to Oude Kerk built in the 13th Century. The build work is interestingly different on both sides. It has some lovely coloured glass windows. Just be wary of the tram line which runs in front of the church.

Admission €10,-. Excavation on the li side under the organ. Construction helmet mandatory, hairnet available. It concerns 1 jetty of about 15 mt length. All you saw were some columns with a steel beam underneath, mostly under the sand again. You can scan a QR code for info. Didn't even do it.
So I had my museum card 'free' admission.
Don't spend money or time on this. It's too bad.

We visited and didn't know what to expect from the exhibition but it was really good. It covered major events that had happened in the world through photographs and really gave us an insight into events, we may not have been aware of. The Church itself is really lovely and also worth a visit and is free with the Iamsterdam card.

I just visited the Nieuwe Kerk. I paid 21.50€ to go inside.

There's nothing to see since - as in many Dutch churches - a lot was destroyed/damaged during the Reformation, except for the 18th century organ case (which was shut today).

I forget: there was an exhibition about queen Juliana, with some older Dutch people visiting. I guess this is an acquired taste.

Nieuwe Kerk, the New Church, is a medieval church used mostly for official events, which overlooks Dam Square, right in front of the royal palace.
Large, simple naves, with a beautiful wooden ceiling.
It often hosts exhibitions and events, at the moment (June 2024) there is the World Press Photo exhibition, highly recommended!
Paid entry, free with the I Amsterdam pass.

Beautiful building.
Unfortunately half of it was covered for refurbishment.
Wanted to take more photos but there was a man cleaning the area with a hoover that seemed to be spending ages in front of the areas of interest.
Would like to come back when refurbishment is complete.
Still worth a visit.

The New Church in Amsterdam was completed in 1408, so it is not thàt new. Michiel de Ruyter, the Netherlands’ most famous naval hero is buried here. Currently it is in use as a venue for exhibitions. The ongoing exhibition about Suriname (Dutch Guyana) is quite strong and fully bilingual in Dutch and English.
