We arrived in Amsterdam a few days prior to a Tulips river cruise, and wanted to see more of the Netherlands than just Amsterdam or the stops on the river cruise. Our two couples fit more than adequately into Hans's vehicle. He picked us up at the Renaissance Hotel in Amsterdam on two successive mornings, and drove us around the countryside. On the first day, we drove through mostly small villages, and took a small ferry to a small town. On the second day, we went to the Hague -- the government city, stopped at the International Court of Justice, Scheveningen, Delft Royal Pottery, Rotterdam, the Markthal (market hall) in Rotterdam, and drove by lots of nurseries. We even went to a working cow farm, that although was kinda earthy, it was really amazing to see for a NYC guy. Lots of adorable calfs born over the winter! We structured the trip with Hans, allowing for shopping time in the town stores and markets as well as the Delft museum and pottery store. (We arranged for our purchases to be shipped home, at a nominal cost.) I liked the tour because Hans allowed time for sightseeing, shopping and relaxing time, all the while commenting on what we were seeing, giving us much more of an appreciation of what the country is like. This tour would be especially good for someone only visiting Amsterdam, as it would get you out of the city, to see the countryside, and speak with non-city folks. He charged 240 Euros for the 4 of us, for four hours each day, but the first day, it was over five, and the second was more than six. Both days were so interesting we never realized how quickly the time went, until we got back to the hotel. I tried to give hime more money, but he said, a deal was a deal. (We did give him a tip, of course!) I highly recommend Hans, a very likable, easygoing person.
