We visited this place last night and it was empty when we got there (before 10pm).
Guy playing the piano might not be the best piano player or entertainer in Amsterdam but he did an excellent job and made customers feel welcomed.
Also the woman behind the bar did a superb job and helped us taste new beers.
Price level might be a bit higher here but you pay for the atmosphere which is way better than in surrounding pubs.
Well if you like screaming football fans this might not be for you. If you want to relax and drink something else than the most boring beers - please give this pianobar a visit.

This place has since reopened and is now called MAXIM PIANO BAR. Had a lovely time when I went. The music is great and the guy on the ivory was funny and sings quite nicely. The music is in English and staff speaks English as well. The atmosphere is nothing short of amazing. Stayed for a couple of hours and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The bartenders wear swank outfits, as do the servers. Gives you a pretty posh image and sets the tone. The drinks were good and bartenders and staff were really nice. They made my night quite enjoyable, and were well funny. Only downsides are the mandatory coat check upon entry and the 50p to use the toilet each time. Only went once, as I figured the toilet should be free. However, nice and enjoyable time for everyone.

Excellent service - loved the guy on the piano, it was a relatively quiet Wednesday night - he was so entertaining, funny and a cracking entertainer! Wish we’d gone there again but had far too many other things to do - make this a must do for your trip!

Came here 2 nights during my stay in Amsterdam with friends. It is open late and has a really good vibe. Every week they change up their in house 'pianist/singer' but whoever plays is very very talented. Every gets beer mats which can you can write a song of your choice on, the performer then does a cover of it. There is dancing on the dance floor and lots of singing along. The drinks are very good but alightly on the pricey side.
The only downside is that there is an entry fee and you have to leave your coat in the cloakroom (which is so annoying if you didn't bring out a cardigan underneath it or are prone to being cold.

Miserable, offensive doorman acts as the gate keeper to dad rock hell (although I guess the ambidextrous piano player has some form of talent, playing the piano with one hand and tapping out the bass track on his iPad with the other). You should do as every other self respecting person does and just walk on past this place. Drinks prices assume a level of cachet this place simply doesn't have. Avoid.

Visited here as it looked cool from the outside... Taxed for wearing coats and then charged by some old drunk woman to use the toilet after spending nearly 20 euro on a couple of pints while some busker played random piano.... What an epic fail of a potentially great bar... AVOID !

and it’s great! The pianist is a young guy, really good, most songs are requests. Great atmosphere, relaxed and happy! Open until 4am apparently.

We recently went to Amsterdam for 4 nights and visitors this bar 3 of them. The first night we just called in for a pint and when we returned the next 2 nights we enjoyed a few bottles of wine and loved the place. The staff are very helpful and friendly, at one stage we went outside for a cigarette and some people tried to sit at our table, one of the bar men then advised them we were sitting there and placed a reserved sign at our table. The wine was delicious and the live music even better. Joel was the resident piano player on 2 of our 3 nights and he is amazing. Hais such a good singer and pianist and was very enthusiastic that everyone made requests. We made a few requests the first night we seen him and the next night he gave us a shout out and played one of our songs. Amazing bar, amazing atmosphere and great location. Can’t wait to visit Amsterdam again and go back!

I enjoyed my night in Pianobar. We arrived around 11pm and there was an average sized crowd. The man playing piano was very talented but he played a keyboard and backing track for many of the songs and the piano is much nicer to listen to by itself. You can request songs on beer mats! The pianist said that it was his final night so I assume they get different artists for different weeks. Drinks were priced slightly above average but we were willing to pay a little more for live music. It’s a €1 charge at the door to take your coat (mandatory) and bizarrely it costs €0.50c each time to use the bathroom (apparently it’s a cleaning fee). Overall we had a good night here! Staff were very friendly to us.
