I bought a bag made by the locals trying to make a living instead of a personalized chinese one. We bought the best dumplings in the world from an indian, some asian chips (amazing!!! and super fresh), we talked to the owners of a bicycle shop super friendly people!
It is smaller than the Van Cuyp one but has its charm. Less tourists, more locals, so enjoy it a lot.

This local market is only 150 meters away from my house. I've been going there multiple times a week for almost 23 years. It has a lot to offer, from fruit to flowers, food stands, curtains, bakeries and chicken, a nuts bar, several coffe shops and bars, restaurants and what not.
The local vendors are always friendly and this market is visited by locals as well as an ever increasing amount of foreigners.
Try it out!

One of the best open markets I have seen for a long time: active 6 days a week, a great variety of goods on offer and most importantly mainly visited by locals, not tourists.

Very good daily market near the Foodhallen with many stalls. Open approx 8am to 6pm except Sundays. Anything from fresh orange juice, traditional dutch fare, cheeses, deli items, fresh breads, butchers, fishmongers, greengrocers etc. plus usual assortment of other household goods. Not so much a tourist market but a good buy-your-fresh-daily-produce kind of market. If I lived here, I'd love this right outside my door and avoid the supermarket! Reasonable prices for good produce.

Ten Kate Markt (logically enough on Ten kate Straat - god bless Dutch naming practicality). This market is less touristy and more cheaperie than the Albert Cuyp. there is are stall selling many varieties of humous, which are good value and so tasty. The 50cent fruit & veggies stall is amazing value. Right behind Ten Kate is Amsterdam's very trendy FoodHallen.

I think I like this market better than the very-touristic-Albert Cuyp. At Ten Kate, you should try the homemade falafel-hummus. The sweet onion hummus is my favourite. Fruits and veggies are a lot cheaper than those sold in supermarkets. I was fascinated by the "EUR 0.50" grocery shop (that's how I call it). As the name suggests, the goods are priced around 0.50 Eur. They looked fresh and good too. There were also flowers, cakes, breads, sausages, sandwiches, fish, super foods, etc, sold in the market. I bought a box of fresh strawberries for only EUR1.50. Awesome!

This was recommended to us by Dutch friends, we found it much nicer than the sprawling Cuyperstrasse Market, with fewer of those boring stalls selling gadgets/phone covers/stuff. Really best for food - cheap vegetables and fruit, with lots of stuff at 0.99 a kilo. The cheese stall had some unusual cheeses - and you buy it machine-sliced to bring out the flavour. Herring snacks of course and the cheerful stall holder showed us how to skin a smoked eel - hold it up in the air, head down, grab it at the tail and unzip it downwards! For a quick lunch, those amazing chips with mayonnaise - but I passed on the peanut butter topping.
Trams No. 7 and 17 deliver you right to the corner Ten Katestraat. Oh, and just along Kinkerstraat is the most amazing food shop with spices, herbs, teas from Far East, Middle East, pretty well everywhere.

This market was just around the corner from where I was staying and it was a great place to pick up fresh produce to eat on the go or to take back and have for a meal.
There was a selection of fruit and veg, meat, fish as well as more practical products such as baby and cycle goods.
The fries van produced some of the nicest chips I've ever had! The satay sauce is to die for!

Little local market in the West part of the city, no far from the center. Ideal for grocery shopping at fair price, great chees, fish, vegetables. Also bread and meet shops and nice cafes on the street. Good street food, best humus and felafel in town!
Close to the commercial Kinkerstraat, where you can find plenty of shops for cleaning and household products, clothing and much more. On the Ten Kate markt you find also an entrance to De Hallen, beautiful renovate building with nice design and vintage shops, a big part with food stands, a cinema and a library.
If you are around, try to not miss it!
