Well, if you feel as if you must see a windmill while in Amsterdam, then this is an option. Actually, it may be the only windmill in the city. When we visited, we stood across the canal for 5 minutes and snapped a few photos. Significant construction/renovation was underway at the time. We saw no opportunity to get closer.

This mill is the one of the few near the center of Amsterdam. it looks a bit far to get to, but it's not at all, it took me about 10-15 minutes to get there by foot from Westerkerk and I think it was worth it! Also tram line #3 connects it to Museumplein.

What I found was a picture perfect, little piece of tranquility where time can stand still. (great place to take a photo with a mill in the background)

"De Otter" is a windpowered sawmill. It is one of the 5 sawmills that still remain in the Netherlands and it is the only one in Amsterdam. The fact that this windmill still at the same location since 1631, there's a lot of things happened. You can't visit it but you can see it. It doesn't operate any longer. The ground was owend by the timber trade "van der Bijl" so there is a showroom selling door and floor in the area.

It was cool to see. I enjoy seeing things of history to see a windmill from the 1600s was a pretty cool experience.

This should be a heritage site. The mill could use a restore, and it is closed off right now, but it is worth the time to visit it. If you go across the canal, you can get a few good pictures. Sometime history should be left in disrepair.
