Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

The bookstore is at a convenient location close to the flower market. You may consider combining a visit to both.
There are so many different type of choices including popular cookbooks, travel guides, novels, biographies, books on sports, architecture, art and fashion as well as children's books at a big discount. You probably will buy a lot so be sure that you have a trolley with you.

The New English Bookstore is a great place in Amsterdam to find cheap English books. The Hobbit, for example, is available here for €5,- only. There is a great variety of books here, from classics (Hemingway) to recent novels to travel guides, etc. The staff can be a bit unfriendly.

Always drop by whenever I am in Amsterdam. Cheap books. Might not be a bit disorganized, some says the staff are not friendly but I couldn't care less. I am there for those cheap (but good) books

I used to come to this shop a lot and liked it's selection of books. However, more and more, I noticed that the stuff working at the shop is not really customer friendly. I started feeling not welcomed. The very last time, after a whole day of sightseeing, I just sat down on the floor in a corner, not disturbing anybody, to look through a few books I was interested in purchasing. After a few minutes, a very grumpy older stuff member (yes, I'm talking to you an older man with a mustache!) came to me and started yelling in Dutch and then in broken English that it's not allowed to sit on the floor and I must get up immediately. Come on guys, people sit on floors in bookstores all over the world! It's not Ritz Carlton! Being tired and forced to get up, I lost my initial interested in the books and left. And I'm not coming back anytime soon! Congrats on loosing a long term customer.

Lovely array of books, nicely organised. Great to pop into for a browse or purchase one of their mystery books. I didn’t purchase anything so I can’t comment on the customer service.

The worst experience I ever had in a book store. I Was so excited to get some books in English but the staff is rude and not friendly at all (specialist an Asian woman) If you are in Holland with the nice vibe about the city, please don't go to this shop. Shows the really bad face about Amsterdam

Very poor customer service. Was here back in December 2018, tried to purchase a book, however the older dark haired female worker/owner who worked during the evening was not very helpful. We had asked how to pay with Visa and was not given a response. She was extremely rude and so we went away. If you walk about a minute further, there are several other bookstores with much larger selections and better customer service - ie Waterstones.

Fantastic range of books covering all topics, good prices too. Staff really nice and helpful. A vast collection of books that I have not seen in the UK, so obviously a place I spent quite a lot of money.

If you want to pay by card, you need to buy for more than 15 EUR. Otherwise, cash only. So were we told by an unkind and unapologetic sales woman. As we were spending our last hours in Amsterdam we did not want to take more money and the purchase was cancelled. If this is really a rule, and they aim to sell books to the foreigners (with foreign credit cards), then it should be written at the entrance.
Otherwise a huge room full of books arranged in no order whatsoever. Most are trash books, but something decent can be found as well. They are cheap.

Floor upon floor of fantastic books! Do make time to go and browse for that very special book/s that you have been looking for. I'm sure they will have it!!
