We decided to book this tour for 4 adults whilst on our weekend break by Eurostar to the city. As the Red Light district is such an iconic part of Amsterdam we obviously wanted to see it. What a treat... can not recommend it enough... Our guide was enthusiastic, incredibly informative but most of all respectful of the environment we were walking around. We learnt so much about the social and historical side of the city as well. Top marks and thank you

The tour lasted over 2 hours and it was recommended to pre book a place for a fee on their website beforehand.
Those who did not and just reserved a free space were turned away due to group tours having a maximum number allowed within the city.
David was the tour guide for the SANDEMANs red light district tour. He was very funny and knowledgable and there was a lot of group participation. I have been on tours where it feels like a school group and only the guide speaks, so this one was a lot of fun.
It is definitely worth it paying to book a space.

It’s right there in the title. My tour guide was Martin. And he’s the most knowledgeable tour guide I’ve come across, tailored the information to my questions perfectly. He also knew a lot of people around this part of the city as tourists tend to forget it is indeed a residential neighborhood. His connections made the tour feel more personal than any others I’ve taken while traveling. These tours are the best way to explore and learn the history and the current culture of the city. Learned a lot about the country’s policies as well. Very fascinating and exceptionally well done.

İf you haven't been there and you wonder about it, then hurry up because the municipality is planning to close the red district as a touristic attraction to change the profile of the city to something more family friendly. Well, at least is what I heard from locals. Hubby and I spent a whole week in the Netherlands, mainly Amsterdam and Rotterdam, it was amazing to see that there were almost zero tourists with kids. Understandable tho for some parts of Amsterdam but in general was youth and adults only, everywhere around. Beautiful architecture, clean and organized city, smiley people, English speakers everywhere. Fun, museums, fast food! Haring, Kibbeling, ufff. ENJOY!!!

I don't want to spoil the tour for anyone and for that reason I will not go into too much detail. This was not my first visit to Amsterdam and I do know my way around but I did learn many things.
Jan our guide was very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about this great city and of course the red light district (RDL). I really enjoyed learning about the history of the city, the origins of the RLD, religion and tolerance. The tour started at Dam Square and we headed into the RDL via Warmoesstraat with some interesting facts shared along the way.
The highlight of the tour of course were the beautiful window girls in De Wallen. Jan took us up and down the main RDL strip including, Oudezijds Voorburgwal and Oudezijds Achterburgwal. We visited the Sex Palace Peep Show, De Oude Kerk (The Old Church) and the Waag in Nieuwmarkt and again along the way Jan explained the History and the changes that have been made to the RDL over the past 10 years.
I really enjoyed this tour and its well worth the money. If its your first time visiting Amsterdam then I highly recommend it. The RDL is a relatively safe area but having a guide take you through the alleys does put your mind and ease. The RDL is a rapidly changing place with many windows and facilities being closed down so book this tour while you still can and enjoy some of Amsterdam's more colourful and erotic history.

Booked this tour for a Friday night at 9:00 pm. Got a confirmation number. Instructions were explicit as to where to meet. We were there 10 minutes early and waited for a half hour In the rain. Tour guide was a no-show. Our credit card was charged 38 Euros. I emailed Viator and have never received a response. Will not book through them again!

It was a Sunday; it was pretty cold and damp. Only 2 other people had signed up for the tour, where typically there would be 20, apparently, those two had a little too much "Amsterdam" the night before and did not show up, so I was the only person on the tour. To his credit, Arthur did not act disappointed, nor did he skimp and try to get the tour over with quickly seeing that there was only one participant. He gave me a very personalized tour of De Wallen as a whole, historical background, architecture, residents, places that the average tourist would just pass by, and of course the window brothels. He was very detailed about the business, operating and regulations surrounding the sex trade, he is a wealth of knowledge. There is no picture taking in the Red light, all the window brothels are clearly marked with "No picture taking" signs that are evident no matter what language you speak. At one point, a tourist was blatantly taking a picture of one of the ladies, she responded by banging on her window telling the tourist to cut it out, Arthur turned around and berated the tourist stating "This isn’t a zoo!", he was visibly perturbed. This made me like him all the more, it's obvious how much he loves his home, he wants to protect and preserve the respect that should be given to the ladies that work there. Overall, the tour was very lighthearted, informative, humorous and enjoyable, Arthur is a standout among tour guides. The single best thing I did while in Amsterdam.

My husband and I were so glad we chose this tour. It turned out to be very informative with Martin as our guild. He guided us through the Red Light District easily stopping at various spots we might not have seen in our own. We appreciated his advise on the do’s and don’ts when visiting Amsterdam. I will say this tour is not for anyone that is easily offended by strong language or sexual themes. I would recommend this tour for a true insight to Amsterdam’s Red Light District.

Considering the weather conditions ☔️ Martijn gave the best tour. He was knowledgable, enthusiastic and fun. We learnt so much about Amsterdam and the Red Light District. It was well thought out, tasteful and enlightening and it was a bonus that Martijn was very easy on the eye! 😉. Thank you for a wonderful tour

Hi. Can anyone enter the red light district or do you need to book? How much is it for two people? Also is it still the same experience from before corona? Or has it changed thanks

Hiya love. I took me and all the kids without booking. Little Timmy had a great time. I would recommend going earlier in the day as certain commodities are cheaper (If you know what I mean ;) )

Hello, all our tours require an online reservation. We often sell out so booking well in advance of your stay is recommended.

Hi, can anyone who has been on the 5pm tour advise, is the 5pm tour a good time to go with much to see or is it better to go later for the 7pm one?
Written November 9, 2019
We did the 5pm tour and would do it again. The tour takes in all aspects of the district including the past and present. Either would be good as the groups are smaller than the daytime tours; we completed the tour with just one other couple. The price reflects this.
By taking the earlier tour you are better placed to retrace your steps and enjoy a walk about the district knowing the parts you wish to see again.

Hey! Can anyone speak on the differences between the 5 pm 20 person tour and the 7 pm 4 person tour? I can tell the second one is more expensive so hoping it is more intimate. Do we walk through the res light district on both? Did anyone attend the 4 person one? Do you see a lot of prostitutes?
Written September 16, 2019
Hello, the main difference is the size of the group. 4 persons maximum vs 20 persons. So the evening tours are more intimate and you'll have more time for questions/ interaction with our expert local guides. Also in the evening the area is a different experience in the dark versus daylight. Both evening and day tours usually get sold out. The number of sex workers depends on day of the week and time. More work in the evening than during the day. Please note that the after 7pm small group tours can only be booked through our own website.

Hello,
I would like to know the pace of the tour. I broke my ankle in March and I have still not recovered totally. I can walk but slowly, like elderly people and I wanted to know if it's OK. Thank you!
Written June 18, 2018
Hello, thanks for showing interest in our tour company! Our tours are normal paced. We'd advice you to book an Exclusive tour via our own website (not available via TripAdvisor), this is a tour with a smaller group size. A slower pace is less of a problem for other guests when the tour group is small.
