About
PRIK is hidden in the heart of Amsterdam and offers a friendly, no-nonsense environment where you can come and relax either indoors or on their lovely terrace. The menu consists of yummy bites and surprising drinks - with or without a little ‘prik’ (as prik means bubbels in Dutch). You’ll love the wide variety of unique cocktails like the Strawberry Cheesecake and Dutch Pepper Bomb. And what about the Prik (Prosecco) from tap in white and pink! Prices are just as friendly as the boys serving you. In the weekends this loungy bar turns into a packed out mini dance club, with the exception that there’s never a cover charge, the music is always great and the crowd always fun! Priks DJ’s spin an eclectic mix of vocal dance, hot pop and funky disco. PRIK has been serving Amsterdam since July 2006 and won numerous awards since, like "Best gay&lesbian venue" by Time Out magazine. The crowd is super relaxed and easy to connect with, a mix of all ages and types of locals, expats & visitors.

Neighborhood: Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. Ordered a fairly simple drink with bartender and sat down and...waited. Then noticed a different bartender was now making drinks. And then a waiter came by and asked for our order? After 15min or so waiter finally brings drinks and one was wrong. They seemed put out that we mentioned that they made the drink incorrectly. Just rude and unwelcoming. In a gay bar. Nice.

Table service due to Covid which is fair enough but is incredibly slow. After requesting service at the bar numerous times and being told to wait, one of our party approached the server to say we were waiting and was promptly told "Well they can wait for me!" Very lucky they didn't have €50 thrown at them and told to shove the rest of the bill. Pretentious, slow and downright rude. Not called "Prik" for nothing

Never in my lift I've felt so at ease drinking somewhere, I felt safe and protected. The staff is extremely nice and caring of their costumers. The mood was really good and their drinks are amazing. Definitely the best bar I've been in my life, I'll come back again for sure.

Such slow service. Was waiting at a table for over 10 minutes and still not served. I entered the bar to try and order there and I was told to return to table and order would be taken. 5 minutes later and order was finally taken. Nearly 25 minutes waiting and still no drinks (which are very expensive). In the end we cancelled the order and left.

Last weekend was Pride Amsterdam and where the whole world tries to reduce platic by putting refund on plastic beakers, the ‘pricks from Prik’ still charged a Euro for the beakers (next to 6 Euro for a bit of beer in the beaker), and didn’t refund the beakers. So, many angry people, many left on the streets and ended in the bins. Very disappointing and it should have resulted in mass boycott of this bar. They make a sh.t load of money from the LGTBQ+ community, which perfectly pays for the party they organise, hence there’s no excuse at all for this type of action. Let’s all boycott for a while and make them realise to think about environment on top of making money.

Dear MP1973Amsterdam , Before calling out to boycot one of the few gay owned gay bars it would have been nice if you had checked your facts. Pride Amsterdam and Prik's streetparty make a lot of effort to make Pride carbon neutral. This year we started a 3 year improvement plan to make Pride Amsterdam the first 100% carbon neurtral festival in the world. Using reusable cups is one of the things all streetparties agreed to do. People pay 1 time 1 euro for the first cup for both days of our street party. When they bring the cup back to the bar for another drink the cup get's swapped for free for a new clean cup. At the end of the festival you don't get your 1 euro back, that is correct. As it's a free festival your only contribution to this festival is this 1 euro. Our staff collects the cups that are not brought back by people who throw the cup on the floor or in bins. Our staff gets money for every collected cup so they can earn some extra bonus for their hard work during Pride, while everybody is else is partying. This system worked very well and as a result the street at the end of the night has never been cleaner as this year. 95% of the trash in the street comes from the drinks and bags that people bring themselves. Other aspects to make Pride more sustainable is the use of 100% green energy, organic locally sourced food, separation of garbage (cans, glass, plastic, paper), using green cleaning products and toiletpaper. Bar Prik itself is also always trying to become more green through out the whole year by using biodegradable straws, water saving machines, 100% green energy, LED lighting and the most efficient electrical appliances. The Prik Pride Street Party is a free accesible party and is for 100% funded by bar Prik. This includes all the security for your safety, first aid, stage, performers, equipment, permits to close down the street, permits to sell food and alcohol, contribution to Pride Amsterdam, staff, cleaning (including waste from peoples own drinks) etc etc. Stating that we make a "shitload of money" on the LGBTQ+ community is a huge insult. At this moment it is not even clear whether this street party made its break even point and if we can organise another Pride party FOR the LGBTQ+ community again next year. We hope we can because we received a lot of love from people who enjoyed what we have organised for them. So we are sorry to hear that you are disapointed that you didn't get your 1 euro back for your cup and if you think this is a reason to boycot Prik then we respect your choice and wish you all the best. Kind regards, on behalf of the whole Prik-team, Gerson & Jelger

This bar was great. It's fairly close to the centre but off the beaten path a bit so the atmosphere seemed more friendly and relaxed. The drinks were reasonable prices (for Amsterdam), good selection of cocktails, decent music and cute bartenders - what's not to like?

My friend and I managed to get a seat inside, it was much busier outside. One night we were there quite early before the crowds and saw a little ginger cat chilling on one of the seats - made my night!

Although it was very busy both times I went, staff was very friendly (and good-looking), it's not expensive and admission is free although it's not just a bar, but also a small club (in the back) with good cheerful music. The whole atmosphere was very relaxed, happy and friendly.

Having seen this bar on Trip, we called in one night for a drink, the bar is small and friendly.
We enjoyed a gin and tonic as there was a promotion on Gin on Tuesday's.
Having enjoyed it we did call in again for a drink the following night.

Lovely bar, friendly staff.
