What fun! This small tour with just 11 people started at a “brown cafe” in the Jordaan district. Our guide, Jacapo (from Italy) was very knowledgeable about Amsterdam’s history and the diverse culinary experiences we enjoyed. Six stops ranged from traditional bitterballen to cheese, to a dish multicultural dish invented by a hairdresser, to Indonesian satay. Each stop had a story. Wine, beer, and genever (the original gin) accompanied the food tastes. Easy, flat walking. Highly recommend.

We toured in the working class neighborhood of Joordan with our guide Gerard. The variety and quality of food was exceptional. Nine different items were presented to us from apple pie using the owner's grandmother's recipe, the traditional herring with onions and pickles, from a fish store, several varieties of cheeses from a cheese shop. Pushing on to a traditional split pea soup served with a local beer, another variety of fried fish prepared very differently from the British fish and chips. Coffees teas and local beers were offered several times. Along the way we were offered chicken satay as a nod to the Indochinese that became part of the Amsterdam food scene from the spice trade with Indochina.

Along the way Gerard shared priceless nuggets of information on the neighborhood adding to the overall charm of walking through this bit of history. .some of the venues had a pub feel and a touch of a saloon. We were eating with the locals and the friendly bartenders.
We settled our questions and answers on what to do while on our trip over a glass of genevir after having traveled up these ancient steps to an area overlooking the lower floor.
Good food, good people, good fun was had by all. A must on an visit to Amsterdam !

This food tour was so lovely! Our guide, Tolga, was so knowledgeable and answered any and all questions our group had about the food, city, or otherwise. He gave so much insight into the history of Amsterdam and it was much appreciated. I highly recommend this tour!

Completely enjoyed the walkaround with Tolga. He was a good storyteller mixing history with the current state of the area. He also stopped the group in cafes or locations on the street and gathered us around so we could listen while we had a taste. Fun, humorous, and easygoing. Very enjoyable way to learn about the jordaan.

Helen was great! It was a lovely and delicious afternoon. My kids also had a great time. Next time we will plan a food tour early in our trip because of the very good restaurant and food shop recommendations!

Bernardo was a great Dutch tour guide for our food tour today! It’s so nice to have a tour guide that let us understand more of the local culture as well as the food and its history. We were totally impressed by the variety of foods we tasted today on Bernardo’s tour as well as the portions. After three hours on the tour, we were full. From pies, to fish, to chicken, to bitter balls, to cheeses and more; beer, coffee, liquors; we tasted it all. Plus it was a beautiful walking tour of the Jordaan neighborhood. Great tour from Europe eats! Bernardo was a great tour guide! We highly recommend it. The only constructive comment is for the participants, only eat a very light breakfast before the tour. Enjoy! We did!

My husband, 22 year old son, and I had a great tour with Tolga—relaxed, informative, entertaining, including anecdotes from his 25 years experience living in Amsterdam since he came here as a college student. The food stops were delicious, and clearly places that are his own personal favorites, not just a “canned” tour. My request for vegetarian options was seamlessly accommodated everywhere possible. Portions and drink offerings were generous! The canal boat we were lucky enough to ride in was absolutely gorgeous—a wooden classic in perfect condition. We had plenty of time for questions throughout the tour. At the end Tolga gave us some of personal recommendations for restaurants, brewery, music, etc. We went to one of his picks for dinner that night and had a fantastic meal. Overall a really fun afternoon, we all loved it!

Aileen was such an amazing, friendly guide! Loved the variety of food choices and vendors, her endearing interactions with the locals—and especially, her personality: “We love cheese here! How can anyone be depressed with cheese? Or fondue! Sitting in front of a bowl of melted cheese—how can you NOT be happy?” (This tour didn’t include fondue, but as a fellow cheese lover, I agree! Cheese= happiness!)

It was a very blustery day for our tour, but our group was small—only three+Aileen so definitely manageable. It felt like a group of friends going out, slipping into shops for a quick bite and tucking into “brown cafes” (old pubs from 1600’s) for something more substantial.

Very good food tour, great selection of foods to try from street eating to sit down meals. Good pairings of alcohol. Boat trip rounded off the tour.

Katya was an experienced guide with good local knowledge and made the group feel comfortable and we all got along very well.

Only improvement would be to have slightly bigger food portions especially for sit down meal.
