Amsterdam has some wonderful and very well known museums but I recommend adding the House of Bols to your list. We spent a morning taking a fascinating tour into the history of Bols and the exhibits into how the spirits are made. We then got to choose and enjoy our own cocktails made by one of the excellent bar tenders.... More

My friend and I really enjoyed our visit to the House of Bols. The museum was full of interesting facts, we loved the guess the scent area. The cocktail tasting was, of course, a great part as was the video room were we had lots of fun learning how to flair bartend. We weren't very good but the video is... More

In this museum you'll see the history of the Bols' liquor and genever. There's really not much to tell about. The museum tour lasts +\- 20 minutes and afterwards you can taste two cocktails. Worth the money if you take the combi-ticket with the diner at the Solo restaurant. If not, it's the average (fun) tourist trap...

We had been to the House of Bols 4 years ago, but it was closed after our visit to the Rijksmuseum. We were so disappointed! Now they have extended their open hours - I believe till 7pm and we loved everything about it. The company has been in existence over 400 years, so there is a bit of interesting history.... More

We spent a couple hours here doing the tour and enjoying a few cocktails afterward. The museum is very interesting and then you select cocktails from recipes that are then made fresh for you. It was a lot of fun chatting with the bartenders as well as the others visiting and drinking. You can buy extra drinks for only 5... More

This is located not far from Museumplein. We got the number 2 tram from outside Centraal Station. Our hotel booked the tickets for us with a decent saving versus paying at the door. It's a self guided tour and when we went on a Sunday afternoon, we had the place to ourselves until the bar at the end. You can... More

We were very excited to visit the house of bols as we knew people who had been a number of years ago and said it was excellent. Although we did enjoy it, we felt that compared to other Amsterdam attractions it was a slight let down. The museum part only takes about 15mins to walk through, and tells you very... More

Interesting, interactive lesson in the history of Bols liquers and jenever Rather than stand in line for an hour for tickets to the Rijksmusem we strolled over to the Bols Museum Definitely the right decision The story of Bols is very well told with plenty of interaction and of course the opportunity to sample the goods! If you're lucky you'll... More

Pretty short run through of Bols history. Appreciate the "interactive" exhibits - lots of smell, touch and see made it much more interesting than we thought it would be! At the end, you look through lots of drink recipes and pick one out that they will prepare for you. Very engaging staff added to this pleasant adventure!

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighborhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
