Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

We were on a boat tour with a group of friends in Amsterdam and Captain Axel of Those Dam Boat Guys says you need to go buy some cookies. None of us had even thought about buying cookies but Axel said they were so good people queue for hours for them! So we decided to join the queue. Fortunately it was only 30 mins long. The queue is well organised and felt part of the experience of waiting for something really special. The staff who worked in the shop and who managed the queue were very friendly. If you have a small child with you get them to ask where the secret door is- magical. The cookies are all freshly baked and served warm. They are beautifully packaged. Are they worth the 2 Euros each and more importantly the time taken to queue? I enjoyed the experience as I had people to chat to that I’d not seen for years and the time taken to queue added to the sense of occasion. There was a girl in the queue with us that worked locally and said she was on her lunch break- not sure I’d do that everyday but it was enjoyable none the less.

Where to start with this little gem of a place?
It's almost hidden down a tight alleyway and would go amiss if it weren't for the line of people standing outside and the faint smell of freshly baked cookies.

After a short wait (barely 5 minutes), we were waved into the store and greeted by the smiling staff as they took out a fresh batch of cookies and took our orders.

The cookies themselves were absolutely delightful. Soft and chocolately with a sweet, creamy white chocolate filling.

I only wish I had ordered more than two!

It is important to note that the shop closes when they run out of freshly baked cookies. This can be as early as lunch-time. I had been here several years before when this was not such a popular spot - now there are queues outside shortly after it opens so get there early. The cookies are the best - only one flavour but perfect. The tins are also beautiful and make a lovely gift. Just get there early! Highly recommended.

Nothing wrong with the concept. You make a nice cookie and you sell it in a place which you spent great care to make it look antique and quirkie, then you add an enormous layer of marketing. You make sure that all tourists fall in your trap, ensuere there are queues (seriously, for a stupid cookie?) and ask a tremendous amount of money. Incredible how many peope waste their time and money on this.

Van Stapele's chocolate cookie comes warm from the oven, and it is delicious! Not to mention, the small store is adorable. The line did not take too long. On one January Saturday morning at 11AM, there was no limit and i waited about 10 minutes in line. On a Monday at noon, there was a 7 per person limit, and the wait was about 5 minutes.

So glad we found this place! Stumbled across it and couldn’t miss it for the queue of around 4/5 people outside, very quick though took less than 5 minutes to be served. The staff were all very friendly and the place itself is beautiful. The cookies are like nothing I’ve ever tasted before. So fresh and warm. Intense flavour of gooey chocolate, crispy around the edges and then with a creamy white chocolate filling. Delicious! Also the little box and bag they come in with a handy little note with instructions on how to reheat them! We would definitely recommend this place and will be visiting again!

This small bakery only makes one thing and they do it wonderfully! They make a chocolate cookie that not only has that slight snap when you bite it, but it is moist and full of chocolate goodness. It is like eating a delicious brownie in a cookie form. There is always a line outside of the shop, but it moves quickly and is well managed by the staff working there. Do yourself a favor and make this a stop while you are in Amsterdam.

The best cookies my girlfriend and me ever had!
Van Stapele Koekmakerij is a small shop that ONLY sells a single variation of biscuits, but they are awesome.
It’s a double chocolate cookie (dark/white).
The cookies were still hot and a perfect mix of soft and hard. The center took it to another level - molten white chocolate.
In 3 days we bought 9 cookies! :)

Best cookies ever!
They serve just one type of cookie that is famously known in Amsterdam. A chocolate cookie with gooey melted white chocolate in the center. Freshly made in front of your eyes and as such, they do sell out pretty fast.
Located in the center of Amsterdam with super friendly staff.
You are gonna have to queue for a bit but is totally worthy the wait

We read that the place has the "best cookies in Amsterdam". We went there and the cookies are indeed very tasty. But people wait in line to buy them... A friend told me he waited nearly an hour! We waited only about 10 minutes and enjoyed the cookies but I don't think it worth waiting for them for a long time
