About Amsterdam Underground
Amsterdam Underground offers (former) homeless people and users a meaningful daytime activity that links with their knowledge, qualities and skills. Our guides are usually a long way from the labour market. During the walk, they use their past to inform people about life as a homeless person and about the consequences of substance abuse. Amsterdam Underground offers people from the target group the opportunity to use their knowledge and skills in a positive way, which enables the further development of their qualities and talents.

In our opinion this city tour is, besides interesting and sometimes really funny, very important . The regular tourist tours never show you these intriguing and darker sides of Amsterdam. Our guide Ferrie took us along his past in the scene of sqatters, in the roaring period 1980's, where people fought for a decent place to live, and (local) authorities made questionable (-) decisions. Ferrie showed us the streets where traces of prostitution, drug use, decay of residences and shops in the recent past are still seen. But, most importantly, he showed us a city of development, human ingenuity and hope. A must for everyone!!

I highly recommend joining the underground city walk. Glenn, our guide, knew the neighbourhood inside out and was a great story teller. Through his stories and experience we got a real glimpse into the past when the neighbourhood was not a touristic centre but somewhere where people were discouraged to go.

Very much enjoyed this tour, it was such a great way to set the touristic city centre back into its wider social and historical context. Glenn was a great guide, bringing the streets' past back to life despite difficult stories, including his personal one. A very generous person!

We had a blast today. Our guide Glenn took us on a tour telling stories about the heroin and cocain trade right in the center of Amsterdam. Dealing drugs, being homeless, telling us the ins and outs of surviving on the Streets of this marvelous city. But not only that. You get to know the many lives some of these Streets have lived. Old gang houses and police stations that are now trendy restaurants and shops. A really personal experience. To top it off, you see how drug users are being helped today. Buildings you wouldn't look at twice suddenly have a much deeper meaning. There's no other guided tour in Amsterdam that even comes close to this genuine experience.
