About
Amsterdam Underground offers (former) homeless people and users a meaningful daytime activity that links with their knowledge, qualities and skills. Our guides are usually a long way from the labour market. During the walk, they use their past to inform people about life as a homeless person and about the consequences of substance abuse. Amsterdam Underground offers people from the target group the opportunity to use their knowledge and skills in a positive way, which enables the further development of their qualities and talents.

It was a month ago, and I'm still referring people to it! Glenn, thank you for sharing your stories with us, and for bringing so much laughter to our day. Fascinating history, delivered with humour and playfulness that kept us all wanting to know more, even in the rain - the most current and insightful tour in Amsterdam. Thank you Glenn!

Ferrie was so engaging and knowledgeable. His own story gave authenticity and impact to the tour. We learnt so much, the tour was not rushed and Ferrie was so patient answering all our questions. Definitely not for the faint hearted but for those looking for the real Amsterdam.

We were shown around in Amsterdam's red light district by one of the guides of Amsterdam Underground. An intense and touching personal story of an ex-addict and her life on the streets. Highly recommended if you want to have a very impressive and interesting tour in downtown Amsterdam.

I think anyone visiting Amsterdam should go on this tour. Amsterdam Underground takes you through the popular Red Light District and shows you a different side of the city; those of being homeless, drug addicts and involved in prostitution. Especially impressed with the strength and openness of our tour guide Sonja who was very honest about her past and how she changed her life for the better. Thank you Sonja and Amsterdam Underground for showing me a different side of Amsterdam. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting and will go again when visiting Amsterdam.

Hi! Thank you for giving us your recommendations! We appreciate your honest review about the tour with our guide Sonja. "Openness" is Sonja s middle name. You need a lot of courage to tell her story though! Thank you for participating! Kind regards!

My husband and I did a tour with Michel which was informative and through the eyes of someone who had lived through drugs, crime and homelessness. It was fantastic to hear Michel's story as he walked us through the city and no questions were out of bounds. Michel was able to point out landmarks and describe what it was like to live in this area 20 years prior. This tour might not be for everyone but it is an eye opener and is certainly real life. Would I recommend this tour to my family and friends..... most definitely. Michel is a great guy who has now changed his life and is trying to help others.

I was very disappointed in this tour... The plan was to go around and hear some cheese storyes and take some photos... Glenn our guide told us about his life in the Red Light District: selling, buying and using drugs. We lost all notion of time and we completely forgot about taking photos. You always know that life in there was not the rainbows and hearts everywhere but never how bad it was or can get. Many thaks to Glenn... he had an rich and amazing life and it was great to meet him and learn from it. The tour is highly recommended.

Early spring we were guided through the center by Sonja. With a smile and a joke she gave us insight in the history of Amsterdam, that you won't get from a book, and her life on the streets: intimate, confronting and eye opening.

We had a blast today. Our guide Glenn took us on a tour telling stories about the heroin and cocain trade right in the center of Amsterdam. Dealing drugs, being homeless, telling us the ins and outs of surviving on the Streets of this marvelous city. But not only that. You get to know the many lives some of these Streets have lived. Old gang houses and police stations that are now trendy restaurants and shops. A really personal experience. To top it off, you see how drug users are being helped today. Buildings you wouldn't look at twice suddenly have a much deeper meaning. There's no other guided tour in Amsterdam that even comes close to this genuine experience.

Our guide, Michel, talked about Amsterdam dark criminal past and shared his own life story. He was very honest and open, giving a unique interesting perspective on the city and its history.
