Neighborhood: Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

    Great place for a beer
Was in Amsterdam for a football match between Netherlands and Scotland, and having visited Amsterdam before, was wanting to get away from the central side of the city, and see what more it can offer. Had just been for a meal near by, and the "windmill brewery" had really taken my fancy, as I could see from across the road that for a Thursday night it was packed! Went in for a couple of beers, and was really good and a excellent alternative to the regular beers that the Netherlands has to offer.

    Good Place.
I checked this place on a nice sunny afternoon. Some different selection of beers, followed by some other finger food options, nice terrace with a very good vibe made the full package. The only reason I didn't rank it higher was because of the staff. At least the person who took all my different orders was really single word answering and with no sympathy at all. In a place where you usually have to ask several different questions about beer and stuff, didn't really make me want further explore the options.

A must for all draft beer fans
Great opportunity to try local beer. We had the classic and special beers and also ouden Beemrsterkaas and Ossenwurst. The cheese and sausage alone were a dream, and the beers - perfect! We didn't take advantage of the guided tour.

A beer beside the only windmill in the city - what’s not to like!
The only windmill in the city makes it a destination beer to say the least. Easy access by public transport as well as walking from the centre. The beer paddle was a great way to experience the beer (I had the classic one) and then you have plenty more to choose from if you want to settle in. A great range of beer snacks (we had the bitterballen with mustard). We went on a weekday so didn’t do the brewery tour - but that’s ok. Not much there if you don’t like beer though

    Refresh and recharge
After spending time walking the street markets of De Pijp or Dapperstraad or going through the Maritime Museum, take an afternoon break here. Plenty of shade and breeze along with a couple of pints of craft beer restores the soul. Flights are available if you want to explore more flavors as you recharge.

    Great beer and friendly vibes
Visited this place on a recent trip to Amsterdam and had a great afternoon. Easy tram ride from the centre of Amsterdam. It was a really hot day and was packed and a great atmosphere. My husband and I shared two of the beer flights plus some tasty bitterballen. Got chatting to friendly Dutch people sat around us. All in all a great afternoon. Bought myself a beer glass in a nice box for just 5 Euros to take home, which was a lovely souvenir. Highly recommended.

The best beer and biterballen we had
We have been there twice and the first time we have opted out for beer samples tasting. The second time when we went there, we didn't know what was the name of the beer we had tasted the first time. When we tried to describe it, the bartender figured out what we would like to drink, and gave us to taste a sample before ordering. I recommend this place to everyone who wants to relax and enjoy the atmosphere while having a good beer and a tasty snack.

Worth visiting for the beer and being up close to a windmill
Definitely worth a visit, easily reached on the fantastic tram service. Opted for the brewery tour at the weekend - less of a tour, more of a history of the brewery, but entertaining and very good value for money. Recommend the tasting flights to find your favourites - an amazing range of flavours. Great service and atmosphere - would definitely go again if we were back in Amsterdam.

Short and sweet with great beer
We had just done the Heineken tour before this micro brewery which we had pre planned doing both and what a difference from price of entry to actual experience. This is a small bar inside a Windmill and you pay a small fee to hear the history within a time a lot. The guy doing the experience was great, gave you the background history to now and was funny. You got a small taster within the time. It’s short and sweet but I learnt more about this miscro brewery than I did walking around the giant Heineken experience Having to read up on everything myself. After you can go and enjoy food and drinks in the very busy bar with a great atmosphere. Highly recommend doing.

The brewery is in a lovely spot beneath the windmill, which is a great start. Then the beer is fresh and tasty. Samplers are a good way to go to see which you will like best. Food menu is limited but adequate. A great vibe with locals, young people and tourists all very "hoppy!"

Great beer and experience. We planned to come here for an hour or so to get a beer and relax a bit and ended up staying 4 hours. The beer is really good and you get a lot of food for the price. For 10 Euro we had two pretty good size loafs of bread, half a soft cheese wheel, a container full of cheese cubs, butter, pickles and a ton of peanuts. We tried pretty much every beer on the menu as we were there so long and enjoyed all of them.

This is a good one! Make sure you stop by if you like the pub/brewery vibe. We went there at around 5pm and it was already completely packed. As you would expect, lots of noise and laughter, but didn’t see anyone getting too drunk or causing trouble. The small food snacks of local stuff were just brilliant, and not expensive. Loved it!

We had been recommended this place loads for our recent trip to Amsterdam! As beer lovers, we walked an hour to visit.

The windmill part is cute, but the actual taproom was on the side of the windmill. The service wasn’t too welcoming, we asked for recommendations but we’re not given them. The first beer we asked for wasn’t given available on tap.

We stayed for a while trying almost every beer they had, some were okay, some weren’t great.

The place fills up quite quickly with children to older men.

The vibe is okay but we didn’t feel too welcomed as a whole.

Unfortunately we came during their Oktoberfest celebration so the places was packed and only three beers were available to try. But the next day we visited their Voldenpark location and the the staff and beers were on point. Love trying craft beer in other countries!

We were recommended this place by family who have been. Location is close to tram stops.
The beer is fantastic (I never even drank beer until I came here and now I can’t get enough of it!) they do a taster selection of 5 and they also serve bar snacks which are also delicious. We had the meat and cheese platter for €11.50 , it went perfectly with the tasters (€10.50) we then ordered a couple of half pints of our favourite. Could have stayed there all night but not sure we’d have made it back to our accommodation! Highly recommended for beer lovers - and those who aren’t!
The vibe is friendly, seems a mix of locals and visitors. Plenty of seating space too.

Admittedly I originally visited this brewery for a bit of an embarrassing reason - Austen from the Bravo show Southern Charm went to this brewery when visiting Amsterdam and I thought it looked like something fun to do. But I was thoroughly impressed by the atmosphere, service and the beer flight I ordered. It would be more fun to come back when it wasn’t winter and you could sit outside - but overall I’d recommend this to anyone visiting Amsterdam. It seems to be a little off the beaten path from most tourist sights which I found kind of cool but easy to get to by tram.

The beer is great and the place is nice, but the staff are not. One member of staff was extremely rude to me. He served someone before me who was there after me at the merch stand, I said I was first and he said no he wouldnt serve me next and went on to insult me! Ive never experienced such terrible customer service. I love craft beer and places like this, but I would not recommend it with such a horrible member of staff. Shame.

Great brewery experience, loads & loads of beers to try. Bar staff are excellent exponents of their craft, knowledgeable and helpful. Try a beer paddle, super way to cover lots of the flavours

After spending the morning being tourists and heading into the afternoon it seemed to be the right time to take a dive into Amsterdam’s non-Heineken/Amstel/Grolsch brewery scene. Using our transit passes we hopped on the number 24 Tram to quench our thirst at Brouwerij 't IJ, located in a former bath house named Funen, next to the De Gooyer windmill (the tallest wooden mill in the Netherlands at 87.3 feet high. It is registered as a National Monument).

The brewery was founded by Kaspar Peterson, a former musician, in 1985 and was one of several small breweries that opened in cities around the Netherlands in response to consumers' dissatisfaction with beer brewed by the larger companies. They brew twelve standard beers and three seasonal beers, besides limited-edition beers. We ordered one apiece and settled into a picnic type table in a side room and watched those around us drinking and consuming what appeared to be good looking food. We enjoyed our beers and promised ourselves we'd be back for more later in our stay.
