We came here in September of 2016, I came by this brewery purely by accident (I bought one of their bottled beers at Marqt during my previous trip called Zatte and I just had to visit in person during my last trip). The pub is very interesting, it is located in an old windmill, getting there is easy given the... More

A great brewery with a great selection of beers. Nice interesting place to enjoy a rest, a beer and a chance to meet some interesting people, locals and tourists.

We came for the brewery tour which was 20 minutes long and was very flat. It was boring and not entertaining in any way. Few basic questions were unanswered due to not knowing the answers to these by the tour guide. We tried pilaster and wheat beers and they are OK. Overall it was a meh experience.

We ordered a couple beers and a half cheese/half sausage board for an excellent day outside. Enjoy your drink sitting under a windmill for a great Dutch experience. We loved the Zatte and the Barleywine

They have lots of outdoor seating to enjoy a pretty day while admiring the windmill and people watching. The beer was ok, compared to Belgium and a lot of other places Amsterdam does not have a real beer culture so we were a little underwhelmed by the beer itself, but the location made it worthwhile.

It is the iconic brewery with the windmill! Very chilled out place to get cheap, tasty local brews, with great canal views.

An excellent selection of beers and reasonably priced as far as Amsterdam goes. The service is efficient and the pub attracts a diverse range of all ages. The cheese and salami is great for a snack too. The pub gets very busy, especially at the weekends. Plenty of outside seating but get there early if you want a seat. Just... More

Brilliant place. On a sunny Sunday afternoon, the place was packed outside but the staff were very efficient serving you. Beers are served in small measures which gve you chance to try a few out. Hint: the snacks are quite pricey and really not worth it.

We probably stumbled across it at the perfect time, a lovely sunny day at a pleasant brewery. Watch the strength to least alcoholic was actually my favourite.

Local brewery for those who are tired of the boring industry lager beer. Selection and quality simply exceptional. Bar service fairly quick. You may choose from a narrow snack menu but it is the IJ beers that lead the activity. Can get crowded during a sunny afternoon, sitting by the neighbouring windmill is a touristy must. Good idea to pre-book... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
