Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Located in one of the small streets in the center of Amsterdam, this place is a must visit for jazz lovers and those who want to drink a beer with some nice music in a place with historic background. I visited a jam session and I was nicely surprised by high level music, playted by some wonderful musicians, and the easy going atmosphere. Bethany's Jazz Club is only open in evenings when there is a concert or a session going on, so check the website if you like to see what's going on. www.bethanienklooster.nl/Bethanienklooster/nl-NL/bethanys+jazz+club/

Note: there is most of the time a fee to get in, but it's definatly worth the money!

I actually went to Bethany's in May of 2015, but it was one of the most memorable and vivid experiences of my time in Amsterdam.
At the time, Bethany's held free jazz shows every Wednesday night, with only the drink money to keep the shows going -- a real community effort. The musicians were veteran players, you could tell; they easily swapped arrangements, played solos, and accompanied people they had only just met with skill and soul. It was a very unique format.
I was staying at Shelter hostel across the alley, and one guy from out of town who was also staying there got invited up to play guitar for a couple songs, just impromptu.
I don't know if they're still doing it or if they've perhaps moved the initiative somewhere else, but attending this special evening made me feel like I lived there.

No sign to show it was there, no information and nothing happening. Couldn't find information anywhere online. Does it still exist? Can't tell!
