Didn't think that we got such a nice experience after visiting this theater. This place was used to be a ship forge before finally became Amsterdam Marioneten Theater in 1989. The show is not only for kids but also for adult. This special art show was really good. It's recommended.

I was looking for unusual things to do in Amsterdam, and found a listing for the Amsterdam Marionette Theatre. This is a truly unique thing to do on vacation. The performance we saw was Mozart’s Impresario. Performances are all in Dutch, but music is universal. Note:there’s more dialogue than a standard opera, but the synopsis available in English beforehand along with the marionettes’ movements help you get through it. There’s no photography allied during the performance, but they have a little segment at the end after the curtain call for the puppeteers where they let you take photos and come up to the stage where you can look up and see the puppeteers working the marionettes. I want to emphasize that that’s vice you this opportunity at the end of the show. So don’t be a putz and stick your phone up during the show blocking the viewing pleasure of others. Wait u til the photo opp. at the end. One side note: this is not a large place, and the chairs are horribly uncomfortable—especially if you are under 5’ 4” or under or have short legs because the edge of the chair seat cuts into the back of your leg cutting off the circulation. We noticed after the fact that the kids got cushions to sit on. Maybe ask if you can use one if needed? I don’t know, it wasn’t offered to us and we didn’t know to ask. My legs were in pain by the end of the performance and I noticed my friend who is shorter than me was also slouching / slumped in her seat (as much as one can do so in a rickety bistro chair without falling out of it) trying to relieve the pressure.

Their production of The Magic Flute by Mozart is outstanding. A lovely experience of beautiful played and sung Music, extraordinary Puppetplay. A real theatrical adventure ( beautiful puppets, lightning, decors ) and a joy for Imagination. I visited many times a "life" opera of the "Zauberflöte" and I enjoyed this one as much. Very suitable for Children and Adults !! Compliments !!

The adaptation of the operettas will bring you a broad smile to your face and you will never listen to Mozart or Offenbach the same way again. The magical world of marionettes is indescribable! You have to come and see for yourself!
