Neighborhood: Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

We love books. Old books, new books, we love them all. This place was perfect. We set aside our Thursday morning to attend the Waterloopein Book market near the American Book Store. By 10am all the sellers were set up. We browsed through posters, prints, cards, books, bookmarks, and other materials. My son bought a lovely print of books displayed as canal houses. Such a treasured keepsake of Amsterdam. We also went into the American Bookstore.

I was happy to be in Amsterdam on a Friday so I could attend this market, very easy access off the #2 tram. Lots of books old and new, many languages, and interesting prints and other ephemera. Also a couple of good book shops in the square if you're needing an English language book, like I did.

This takes place every Friday, and consists of around twenty stalls in the square at Spui. There are also two bookshops in the square too, one called the English Bookshop. Quite a good number of the stalls have excellent sections containing many very good selections of English books, very well laid out (there are many French and German sections too). These are not trashy novels, but classics, art volumes, history, science, as well as science fiction ........... There are better choices here, at reasonable prices, (I bought a very good quality copy of Suskind's "Perfume" for €4) than in many market stalls and second-hand bookshops in London. If you are stuck for a good read then you are bound to find a good book here.

Books, books and more books as you would expect plus art prints and postcards. Found three very rare and I mean rare GB cards here at 20 eurocents each and all within staggering distance of the Cafe Hoppe and Cafe Zwaart

We enjoyed strolling through the market. Prices are good and we ended up picking up an old map of the Netherlands. Highly recommend if you are a bibliophile.

Exploring Amsterdam and decided to visit the book market. It's a bit small but there's a nice collection of books and posters all with a decent discount compared to their store counterparts. I'd recommend coming around 30 min to an hour after the official opening since people will still be setting up their stalls. I managed to find two nice gifts :)
Definitely coming again.

I just love this place, who’s book addicted will love it too, I’m sure! This square is full of bookstores, cafés and books scattered all over the place. On Friday happens here a Book Faire, I recommend anyone to go there, since we don’t have this kind of fair in Brazil. On Sundays happens here an Art Fair. In the summer, the government (I guess is the government) puts here some sofas, bookshelves all over the square. It’s pretty cool! Here also lies the American Book Center, where they send books written in English, and also where is the entrance to the Begijnhof, the medieval courtyard.
