My first impression was that Amsterdam was rather dirty and uncared for however having come from Switzerland and Germany before arriving in Amsterdam I think that coloured my thinking. After the first 24 hours there I fell into the swing of things and realised that there is a lot of wonderful and interesting to discover in Amsterdam - it is a very easy city to walk as the footpaths are even and flat. Loved the windmill tour and just generally walking and discovering what Amsterdam had to offer. Was disappointed to get all the way to Museumplein to take a photo by the large AMSTERDAM sign only to find it has been removed due to vandalism

Montelbaans Tower ( Montelbaan Storen ) is a wonderful evocative and eye catching tower in the Centrum district that is a great place to visit.
It's located on a series of canals and makes for some great photographic opportunities,the area is also great as there are some superb pubs,bars and restaurants here not aimed at the tourists but at the locals.
The tower was constructed between 1512 and with further additions such as the clock face completed in 1606, it was part of the Eastern defensive wall of Amsterdam.
The tower is found on Oudeschans in a great district of Amsterdam and well worth checking out.

Another scenic spot that is probably off the radar of most sightseeing in Amsterdam, but there is a lot of charm here, and in the getting there. Plot your destinations on a map and link them up for a self-guided walking tour. Nice way to spend a day.

The tower is dated from 1516. It's built for defending the city of Amsterdam. It is also called 'Malle Jaap'(silly Jaap), it is because once the clock irregular struck spontaneously. Nowadays it is the office of Private Boat tour. When you take a canal cruise, the boat will pass this tower. Or you walk around in the jewish corner area, near the Rembrandt house, you will see it. It can't be missed.

We spied this clock tower during our canal cruise around Amsterdam. Formerly named Silly Jack as it never told the time properly. The spire was added almost one-hundred years on from when the original part (a defensive tower) was erected. Not a major must-see, though.

Nice 👍 tower sitting on one of bank of canal. It is part of city fortification, just few minutes from New market.

this is an old dutch clock tower located along one of the canals. it is very unique and dutch architecture. well maintained. looks towering along the canal.

Nice tower and view of it from the water or roads along a canal. Quite neat compared to other architecture in the city being this tower is built to go down straight into the water. Built in 1516 it's what remains of the old fortified wall that was built to help defend the city. It's just a bit off the beaten path of city center, but if walking towards the Nemo science museum, the zoo, or WWII resistance museum, you can make this attraction be a convenient stop on the way. Not sure if you can enter the tower as we did not walk up to it, but viewed it from across it's canal.

The Montelbaans Tower is a old structural tower standing out as the landmark in the old city of Amsterdam. It is very easy to identify the historical remains when you stroll along the canals or have canal boat ride in the city.

This tower seems to often be on the horizon, a landmark in the old city, very attractive and something to take a photo of.
