About Black Heritage Amsterdam Tours
The Black Heritage Tour in Amsterdam makes the hidden histories visible of the African Diaspora and colonial history from the 17th century. The tour is for everyone who is interested in learning more about these untold stories. We travel throughout the city canals on-board a classic canal boat or as a walking tour as we explore the history visible in the national landmarks, architecture, canal houses and in museums. We offer weekly tours: Fridays at 2:00pm is a walking only tour; Saturdays at 12:00pm is a boat tour; and on Sundays is a boat tour that includes a visit to a museum. We also offer private group tours any day of the week.

My brother in law and I took our young daughters on this tour during a weekend trip to Amsterdam. Jennifer the tour guide gave us a spirited and passionate tour of black history which we will never forget. We learnt so much about the contributions that people of the black diaspora made to Dutch society and economy. I’ recommend that anyone who is interested in history should attend this tour, it was one of the highlights of an enjoyable weekend in Amsterdam.

It was a blazing hot day in Amsterdam, me my friend and our two daughters booked the tour. Being black people from the UK we were not sure what to expect. The tour was normally a walking tour but it was conducted via boat. I actually really liked that. Back to the tour, it was very informative tour from a total different perspective from the UK or USA viewpoint. Although they interlink, this perspective gave even more depth to this history that is often swept or rewritten to suit. I learned so much and was glade the young people were able to experience the amazing adventure. Jennifer the tour guide was really amazing, she articulated the stories, the facts in a way that made me feel proud. She was positive, fun and honest. Not sure what I was expecting but again it was valuable and a necessary tour to take. This is not a "black" thing but a "historical" thing unearthing some uncomfortable but honest revelations. Take your family and friends and open up yourself to Jennifer and the heritage tour. Loved it...

I took part in the Black Heritage Amsterdam Walking Tour of the Red Light District last week and I really do believe the experience will stay with me for a long, long time. As an Amsterdam resident and travel writer who often shares tips and advice for visiting Amsterdam, this tour and meeting Jennifer has completely shared how I see and will write about the city in the future. Jennifer brings so much light, energy and knowledge to her tours and I really didn't want it to end as although the stories she was telling me were confronting and upsetting at times, they were all fascinating. As a white woman who is on her unlearning journey this was a pivotal experience that I will return to again and again mentally, and very possibly physically by doing the tour again, in the future. If you are planning on visiting Amsterdam in the future, be it first or second or third time, I urge you to do this tour so that you have a deeper understanding of how the city came to be, and how Black lives played a vitally important role in this. You will not only get to see Amsterdam and the Red Light District in a way not many do, but you will also gain knowledge and insight that will really change your way of thinking about history.... and our future.

I took the tour during the 1st week of March. The knowledge of the history Jennifer shared was extensive. We walked some and had the boat tour. This is a must see if you visit. To hear the history and see the proof as you walk or ride through Amsterdam is enlightening. That experience alone makes it a must-do. Plus we got good tips on eateries and other things of our culture to experience while in Amsterdam. Their communication was timely and the were flexible with needs.

My time my visit and my day was well spent on this tour. The information given from Jennifer Tosch my tour guide about the history of black people and what part we contributed to this and many other nations has made me proud, I learned so much her, as she expressed such knowledge of our people. I will forever be grateful to this sister for her kindness and passionate expression of truth about our heritage. This is a tour I would highly recommend knowing you will walk away well informed, enlightened and Blessed. Thank you so much Jennifer you are a treasure!!!
