Nice to walk around

Walk was pleasant in spite of cold weather and flood of people going in all directions. The main attractions are Flower Market and Red Lights District, of course.

Our hotel was located on Singel which is very central. It was wonderful to walk around. The Christmas lights on the trees along the canal made it look very festive. This a very pleasant neighbourhood.

This innermost canal was originally the city's defense ring. There are some magnificent patrician houses along either side.

This is the main canal in Amsterdam. It was the first canal. One of the bridges on the canal is the widest in the city. There are several restaurants near there so you can dine or drink and watch the boats go by.

Singel is one of canals that's make the Amsterdam an interesting place to see. Along its banks there are a lot of small shops and food stands. If you are in Amsterdam you must see at least one of the it’s canal and the Singel should be one of them.

Like all the canals that I saw this one is nice. But I think this may be the best one. The one thing is that it is very crowded. But the views and the houses along the side are great. Such a beautiful spot.

The Singel should be an ideal spot for strolling since the canal is beautiful and the flower and bulb stands are colorful...but each of the three different times we were there, the streets were packed with locals and tourists that seemed to spoil everything. If you want to shop for bulbs, this is right area, but if you want a... More

Beautiful canal that is very long and a nice walk to do. Has a very nice flower market along it with some good souvenir shops and pancake houses.

Staying in Centrum

Neighborhood Profile
Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
