The best way to see Amsterdam is by boat. The reason is a completely different perspective then when you are walking around. So you can watch all building sliding by while sitting down. Boats offer headsets with information about the buildings and history of the town. They do that in multiple languages, about 9 I think. When the weather is nice you can sit outside or they slide open parts of the glass roof. When the weather is bad, you are dry and warm. So definately do one of those tours, it will make your trip to Amsterdam complete.…

The Rondvaart boats are close in the Dam District near Centraal Station. The boats leave from several locations and many times a day. They provide headphones and the digital tour is guided in many languages. Its fun and protected from bad weather.

During the year in all of the different seasons, and at different times of day, it is great to see the beautiful city of Amsterdam from the water. There are several different companies and options, from little boats to the more classic large boats. We went recently on the "Winter Light Festival" in a small open boat with a guide/skipper giving the commentary. I much prefer the live guide to the recorded/multi-lingual option. The guides know the city well and give lots of little extra bits of information. It is also easier to ask questions during the trip. …
