A small inconspicuous place

This is a small and peaceful inner yard of a couple of residential buildings. At one corner is situated a nonfunctional water fountain with a lion's head decoration.

There are many hofjes (square) in amsterdam and Claes Claeszoon is one of them. Some hofjes are open for the public and some others not. Usually the location of a hof is difficult to find, with a small entrance that you will never notice it if you're not looking for it. This hofje is not really beautiful though it has... More

Okay, so it’s a hof (courtyard) in Amsterdam. It’s just a courtyard that connects a few buildings to allow people in and out of their houses. Nothing photo worthy here; really, it’s just a courtyard for people to enter/exit their houses. If you happen to be walking down the street, have a look. But don’t go out of your way... More

Staying in Jordaan

Neighborhood Profile
Jordaan
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
