On a visit to Amsterdam the Amstel River and the numerous canals provide an excellent opportunity for viewing the city from a cruise.

At night Amsterdam is a maze of lights and canals. By day you can see the enormity of the business and commerce along the river with old world houses nestle here and there.

We visited here on the canal boat tour. The Amstel is how Amsterdam got its name and how it also became known for its beer. This is still a working river, but it is also worth viewing the river from one of the bridges.

This was part of our canal boat tour. A working river, it is vital to the life of the city. Worth the time to tour the working heart of Amsterdam.

We took an evening cruise and one of the 'hop on hop off' day boats during our trip and in our opinion (and many others) it is truly the best way to enjoy this beautiful city.
