Short 4 Mile Bike Ride to Windmill-
We took the route along the Amstel River Canal and it was about 4 beautiful scenic miles. It was fairly flat the whole way-passed several parks too. Old windmill makes a nice photo-that’s about it.

I visited this place in march 2014. It's a very much picturesque and scenic sight located lonely on one of the outside corner of the Amstelpark. It's worth a visit and not to be missed kind of attraction of Amsterdam. It is a wonderful sight as it is scenic from all the angles. There is amstelpark on one side and a big Canal on the other. I heard from a tour Guide that a family lives in there. And to live in this windmill house, the family has to undergo thru some training. And there is a long list of people with the govt who wants to live in this house. And it's not cheap either to live in this house therefore rich and affluent people only can afford. Though the present family living in there is there for a long time now. Reaching to this place is also easy thru metro train no 51. Get dropped yourself at RAI station. From there walk thru Amstelpark to the other end of the park where the windmill is located outside the park. In the bargain you got to see Amstel park as well which is again good for a walk and natural beauty. Eating and/or washroom facilities are located at Amstelpark's first entry Gate which is another corner from Riekermolen site.

I searched for the perfect place to exchange vows with my husband. I saw it online and loved it instantly. When I traveled there, it was even more beautiful in person. I now have the most precious memory of this very old windmill in one of my favorite countries in the world.

Riekermolen is one of the 8 windmills that you can find in amsterdam though all is not in the city centre. This windmill lays along the amstel river and just outside the amstel park. It's a 'polder' mill. A family lives in this windmill so you can only walk around the mill and take pictures. You can find the statue of rembrandt near the windmill. In every season it has his charm. Daily, the buses bring hundreds of tourists to see this piece Holland Icon and that's why it is the most photographed windmill of the Netherlands. The best way to go there is by bike but you can also take a tram (no.4) or 'sneltram'(no.51) from Central Station, get off at RAI station and then 10 minutes walk

The Rickermolen is located just outside the Amstelpark and across the Amstelland, it is apparently the only windmill left in Amsterdam and built in 1636. It is a bit off the normal tourist areas but close to the Amsterdam Zuid business area, closest train station will be the Amsterdam Rai - then a nice walk through the Amstelpark. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

We were told by several people that there is an old windmill next to the Amstelpark. One day we went to explore. If you exit the park through the back, you will walk right into it. It was sunset and the sky was beautifully colored. The windmill is very close to the river and there is a bright display of flowers blooming next to it. Also there is a Rembrandt monument to the side of the windmill. Apparently, Rembrandt used to walk out of town along the river Amstel and paint right about there. It's sure adds some special meaning to the surroundings.

Gorgeous scenery. Beautiful traditional windmill. Short walk from the Novotel (great hotel) or Drentepark on the 4 tram. Must see if you don't have time to go out to the country side.

It was amazing how big an authentic windmill actually is! There is a family/caretaker living in this windmill so you cannot go inside, but you can get quite close to the outside and it was very cool to see up close. This one of the highlights of our trip to Amsterdam! We were only in the Netherlands for about 36 hours, but we were definitely glad that we made time to visit Amstelpark and see the Riekermolen.

One of only a few windmills close to Amsterdam this is quite a sight to behold if you have never seen one up close before. It is huge and a beautiful structure that provides you with great photo opportunities. There is also a statue of Rembrandt very close by as well as one of the canals.
