Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.
How to get there

Came here on my first day in amsterdam to see Hereditary. The film was great but the cinema is really impressive. It has a cool bar that is cheap and serves good local beers. The cinema is comfy and excellent quality. Loved it.

They have a great bar with reasonable prices. Showing cult movies and many documentaries.
Tram stop close by. Runned by volunteers (students).

This place definitely attracts the creative type; you can see it in the amount of people sporting interesting haircuts and setting up here with their laptops, listening to the live music and/or going to see the arthouse films for about 9 EUR per person (they give student discounts too!). I'd go back with other cinema-appreciating friends!

Love this cinema, nice bar, crowd, screen but they have a reeeeealy squeaky door. However, this did lead to a nice moment in Bladerunner when, during a quiet point, Ryan Gosling was looking towards the screen. Right on cue, someone came through the squeaky door & Ryan turned to look in the direction of the person entering. Lots of laughter in the room. It might have ruined that particular scene's dramatic tension but it definitely made my night.

In fact, I've changed my mind. Don't bother fixingthe door. It's all part of the charm.

It's a large space filled with assorted tables, chairs, and a sofa or two near the window. A lot of sunlight (well, for Amsterdam anyway ;-) can be present because of the roof window. Coffee and beer is well priced, and most days you can get toasties for a small amount of money up until 16:00.

One of my favorite things to do in Amsterdam is get a window seat (if you can), order up coffee or beer and just people watch on a rainy afternoon.

Other tips regarding the cinemas are spot on. The main room has spectacular audio and the projection is first rate as well. Last trip, my MO in the late afternoon was to catch a film, get a bite to eat afterwards, then gear up for late night.

If you wish to catch a late night film on the weekends, the bar is still open afterwards for a while and you can catch a drink, then walk down to Plantage Middenlaan to catch the night bus back inwards.

They have pizza nights. You take you pizza into the cinema and eat it why you watch the movie, with a beer. Kriterion is in an Amsterdam corrner where a lot has changed (huge new university campus) and a lot hasn't. Kriterion reflects different eras. Seventies of the last century mixed with contemporary technology in terms of projection. Good seats to watch the kind of movies in that match the academic atmosphere of the neighbourhood. Good place to have a drink too, whether you have bought a ticket or not. We always leave Kriterion in "why go anywhere else" kind of mood. There are a few very nice dinner options down the street by the way.

Kriterion is a small cinema with three theaters ranging from app. 200 seats (ground floor), 85 seats (first floor) and 70 seats (second floor). It's relaxed atmosphere - and adjoining bar - makes for a good viewing. Don't go there for the Hollywood block busters but for everything else - from top documentaries to the worst horror movies ever made - you need to go here. Excellent film festivals, parties, sneak previews and other 'off the beaten track' films.

We went there to have a beer. Nice selection of draft beers, relaxed atmosphere. Ideal for a drink or two to relax. Would go again, next time in Amsterdam.

It is very comfortable to watch a movie here. The location is great and the bar gives a very lively and relaxing ambience. This is indeed a popular theatre for the locals.
