The artis zoo is very good, we got the tram out which drops you off very close to the entrance. We didnt pre book tickets and only had to queue for 5 minutes to get them. The zoo doesnt require a huge amount of walking and had a wide variety of animals on show. Highlight for me were the wolves... More

Amazing variety of animals and a great balance of indoor and outside spaces which made our January visit enjoyable. The zoo has an aquarium and reasonably priced cafe, the entry price is €21.50 for adults. Thanks for a great day!

One of the oldest zoos I had ever come across. We were supposed to send 4 hours - but ended up spending 7 hours including the Micropia. They have animals which I have never seen either in the Central Park Zoo . Definitely some rare species are out there especially the lizards. Visit the Microbia - definitely one of its... More

Went to visit a friend in Holland and he brought me to Artis. I'm not typically a fan of zoos, however this one genuinely made me never want to leave. Its the perfect size and its located right in the city. There is plenty of animals and also an aquarium!

I can rate this zoo as mostly mediocre. Not so many animals, and the zoo itself is small. If the weather is rather sunny and more or less warm, you can go. It it is freezing, better find some other location :)

I was actually pretty impressed with this zoo. The enclosure with the tiny monkeys and lizards etc is really good. About a 20 min walk from central but definitely worth a visit!

Great not to big zoo in Amsterdam with lost of different animals. Due visit the Micropia, you will need a seperate ticket, it is a great view on microbs and the lives. It has an excellent restaurant as well, with a great terrace in spring/summer.

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
