Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Once you want to escape the smell of weed in town, just walk in the church and relax. Interesting and small details architecture is in place.

Walk and enjoy ♥️

Zuiderkerk (South Church) is located at Zuiderkerkhof in the central Amterdam not far from Rembrantshuis.

Historically, this was one of the very first Protestant Church built in the city, it was designed by famous Dutch architect Hendrick de Keyser (1603-1611) and is Dutch Renaissance with classical ornamentation. The exterior is attractive, particularly the tower. Interestingly, Zuiderkerk was featured in a painting by Claude Monet during his visit to Amsterdam in 1874.

These days, like other churches around the city, Zuiderkerk has been repurposed as a municipal information centre and venue for exhibitions. Unfortunately at the moment it is also under renovations, meaning it is not open for visitation. Am not sure when it is scheduled to be reopened to the public.

The church itself is not big but can be accessed fro free. The main attraction is the tower which you can ascend up to a certain level. Be sure to ask when the next tour is as they only allow 6 persons at a time in the tower.

The guide spoke very good English and told us some interesting fact about the church and its architecture. Also about Amsterdam in general and the bells in the tower. The tour goes over different narrow staircases and ladders. So it is nothing for people who have fear of heights. Also older people should think about if they want to take the strain.

I can only recommend this tour as the view can not be beaten. Go there if the Anne-Frank House is full, which it is all of the time. The entrance to the church and the tower is very close.

The city's oldest Protestant church, a nice one but not that impressive just had a look from the outside since it was closed.

I recently went with a group to Amsterdam and this was on my list of places to see as I was unsure if I was going to be able to get to Westerkerk on time, in queue, to climb up the bell tower. This church is no longer open to the public. It is an events center that allows rentals for corporate gatherings and weddings (and quite modern inside now - its awful). They had a sign up at the bell tower entrance that said it was closed and no longer taking groups up. Not sure if it's permanent or not (for the bell tower) but it had been closed shortly before my group arrived.

In the city centre of Amsterdam, there are a couple of churches. While walking through Chinatown, we spotted the Zuiderkerk from far. This church has a classical architecture. Beautiful!

After visiting the statues of Rembrandtplein, I proceeded with my walk. I kept looking for its tower. From the main road, I entered a courtyard and at the end of this courtyard is this church.

Not worth your time to,visit here. The church is closed for renovation. Entire building is covered with green scalfoldings.

This church is beautiful and I guarantee it is the most prettiest place to take a picture in Amsterdam!

The towers is precisely in the middle of the canal, making the picture looks like a postcard.

Highly recommended!
