I didn't expect much from a visit to this museum and it was pretty much as I expected. It's a small museum and doesn't have many artifacts on display; mostly just old photos in dark rooms. I forgot how much we paid for the entrance fee, but we were out of there in less than a half hour. Considering there are so many other worthwhile places to visit in Amsterdam, spend your money elsewhere.

The name sums it up perfectly. The Torture Museum is a quick (probably won't take more than an hour tops) jaunt through a history of people being absolutely horrific to one another. Good place to duck out off the street for a little while-- the price is right too at just under 5 Euros.
I was less shocked by the displays than just the idea that people did these things to others. Even more disturbing is the idea that we still do.

Very interesting displays and ambiance. Most of the exhibits are posters that explain each device. If you don't read the posters, your tour would last under 10 minutes. Pretty small overall and not overly impressive.

The museum is interesting for anyone interested in history/medieval torture. It shows quite a lot of instruments used in various countries/times and gives good explanations of each of the instruments used. There are a couple of opportunities for photos also. So if you are interested this sort of thing then I would recommend it. If not, it's not particular diverse or interesting.
Moreover, It's easy to find, situated in the centre of Amsterdam and it's also quite cheap 10Euro Adult Entry.

Visited in Sept 2012 and again in Nov 2012 - loved it. Great informative but fun place to visit. Slight sound and special effects as you enter and loads of really interesting and highly shocking artifacts and salvaged implements of sheer torture. It's also great because it never seems crowded or rushed. Photos allowed and even a webcam opportunity on the second floor to email to your friends. Very informative in a gruesome fun way. I love this place and the staff are really relaxed, helpful and friendly. Gift shop and WC downstairs.

I couldn’t continue my tour in this museum as I felt sick from the torture pictures and stories and decided to leave. But anyone into This kind of history might enjoy

One of my friends wanted to visit whilst we were in the city. It only takes 20-30 mins to get round. It's not particularly disabled friendly as there a few different levels inside. The information is displayed on the walls and a few devices scatted about the various rooms. There isn't anything different really than what you'd have already seen a hundred times over at other museums/dungeons. The tour is self guided and is just a scattering of random medieval bits thrown in, with some medieval looking pictures and writing on the walls, then chucked up a sign to call it a "museum".

My friend and I visited this museum as we thought it would be interesting and something different to other museums we had been to, however, it was one of the worst places we went to throughout a month trip around Europe and I would not recommend it to anyone. Tickets were way too expensive and all the information in the museum was clearly copied and pasted from Wikipedia. Funnily enough while my friend and I were cycling back to our hotel someone heard us mention the Torture museum and warned us not to go as it was so bad - unfortunately we had already visited.

Do not go here. It is a waste of money and time. There is basically nothing inside but a bunch of murals on the walls and tea stained old (fake!) signage about torture. You can do better reading about torture with good lighting. It is a silly ridiculous place really. They only have a smattering of 'torture' devices that all look fake. Really! There is a much better use of this real estate somehow. Do Not Go Here.

Hi, could anyone tell me if this museum is wheelchair accessible? The entrance looks flat but is there stairs inside? If so, is it necessary to use the stairs? As a wheelchair user I can't do stairs so I don't want to waste time going here? Thanks!

I'm not sure this is wheelchair accessible. There are a few sets of stairs in the museum and it seems like you need to use them to go between floors.
You could contact the museum and ask. They may be able to accommodate you
