Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. Very interesting museum, especially the Egyptian and Etruscan collections, which one would not expect in Amsterdam.

Interesting archaeology museum, don't normally like these sort of places, but this one was really good. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Last room is a bit eerie, as they have a bust of the founder in the room, and it's face seems to follow you around the entire room!!!!

We went in this museum just because we saw there is a mummy exhibited. You can also see Greek and Roman stuff. There is a room with pottery fragments where you can assemble them. They also gave us a free coffee in their caffe.

There is more open space than actual artifacts on display. Those that are on display have meagre descriptions and it's as if everything is huddled together in a typical non-organized fashion - So common here. There is no engaging leaflets, and a room dedicated to half-finished pottery that is being "worked" on.
Sure, the cafe is quiet, but if I want to sit in solitude, I might as well sit at home.
Save your time and your money, and go to one of the more professional museums who are keen to engage their visitors with their exhibitions.
This. Is a joke.

The Allard Pierson Museum is a museum about the ancient cultures, Egyptian, Greek, Roman, and the Near East. Since it is an Amsterdam University collection museum, you will in the lower floor also find an exhibition of the university history.
It has been partly closed for refurbishments and will re-open 18 october 2019 with a new exhibition. During our visit works were in progress and we visited the 2d floor and lower floor. The exhibitions on the second floor are beautiful. It seems that someone kissed this sleeping beauty and re-arranged the collections into themes in new very aesthetic cabinets, well-lighted and objects viewable from wide angles.
The museum has a bookshop and a cafeteria. Sandwiches are freshly prepared as you order. Warmly recommended.

We when there and there was construction equipment in front the main entrance, but there was NO signs saying it closed. Matter of fact, there was another sign saying the entrance was 20 meters away, SO we went in there but there was NO staff, so my wife & I went up the second floor and started looking around for few minutes until a construction worker told us it was CLOSED.... You would think a Big sign saying the museum is closed OR even someone from "I Amsterdam Card" city card would tell us that....Awful...all the way around....

First of all, beautiful building.
Welcoming staff, although they forgot to offer me the audiotour so I had to go back and ask for it.
The audiotour was informative but only available for the temporary exhibition.
The permanent collection was partially on display due to construction work
Still there was plenty to see, and they compensated the construction with a free consumption in the museum cafe.
I will visit again when fully opened.

I realise that the Egyptian exhibit is under refurbishment, but considering the entry fee, I would have liked to have seen more of a range of objects, and a slightly better signposting than what was on offer. The gift shop had a great collection of books, however, and the interior was pleasantly cool and well laid out.

We visited this museum as it was free with the iamsterdam card but wish we hadn't wasted our time! After eventually finding a very well hidden entrance and then wondering around to find a desk we approach a member of staff who completely ignored all attempts we made to talk to him. We tried to get his attention for about 5 minutes in both English and Dutch but got no reply. So we decide we were at the wrong info desk and walk up some stairs labeled "museum" only to get shouted at by the gentleman we'd tried to talk to.
After eventually being allowed up the stairs labeled "museum" we find no further signs, just some Greek-looking statues with no labels. We thought all the museum was were two small rooms of statues! It was very unclear which doors we were and weren't allowed through. We found a spiral staircase and decide to go up, we'd found the museum!
There was little information on anything displayed in either Dutch or English. There also appeared to be an office in the middle of the museum that was in use so we couldn't access the whole thing.
The displays themselves were relatively interesting but after spending about half an hour trying to find the museum inside what looked like a university building and then being shouted at by staff we weren't really in the mood! We looked around for about 40 minutes then felt uncomfortable because the people in the makeshift office were glaring at us so we left.
Maybe with nicer staff and better signage the museum would have been interesting!

The permanent collection has interesting artefacts from the Ancients, even an Egyptian sarcophagus. The museum also offers activities for kids. If you were just planning on visiting the temporary exhibition for an hour or two, that's fine, but you could spend most of your day here. The permanent collection comes with videos of historians explaining what you're seeing in front of you.
