The area

Address
Neighborhood: Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Not so many people know that this building has so beautiful architecture inside. This is the Amsterdam City Archives. You can visit it for free. On saturday and sunday at 02.00 pm there is special guided tour seeing the "treasure room" ( it will charge you € 6,00 and children under 16 years old is free). They usually have temporary exposition and at this moment is about "composers during the war" also the concerts. Free entrance. It worth visit. The address is moved to Vijzelstraat 32, 1017 HL Amsterdam

Not known by many, it represents Amsterdam during the 20th century (not well known by many tourists who all come for the canals etc.) Originally designed for the Nederlandse Handelsmaatschappij, it also housed Dutch bank ABN AMRO later on. Today it is still in use as city archive, part of the city council. Its interior and details represent Art-Deco at its best, and give a good sense of the mathematical precision of Dutch architect De Bazel. The building is partly opened to the public: especially the vaults downstairs are spectacular! Temporary and permanent exhibitions by local artists and institutions are on the ground floor (the World Heritage stage for example). Definately worth visiting this pretty unknown piece of modern history!

Art deco monolith in the middle of the canal district, this imposing building was quite a shock. Unusual design.

Visiting the "Kijk Amsterdam 1700-1800" exhibition, featuring drawings of city scenes was high on my list. The drawing show the city, of course, but much more interesting, provide glimpses of the lives lived at the time. They are like the photographs we make today. So if you have a chance, got take a look!

opportunity to see inside the gold storage and secret parts of a bank.
cant see this being robbed easily excellent film set for someone.
the steel doors the architectural opulence no wonder bank charges are high. I bet they are still paying the mortgage on this place .
wonder at the historic archives on view in the basement push button to light up a scene kids were enjoying this . .
enter the place go left to the end then descend. The vibe is electric so quiet and you sense the history poring from the roof.
lifts for disabled people.
the staff informative ,helpful and proud of the place . also one of the free toilet facilities in the area.
a trend I never get used to in Holland the lack of public toilets as if it taboo. .
the banks interior and structure is a tillers dream,a bricklayer master class, and engineering not found anymore easily.
