wow - Michael can design a tour for everyone. My husband and I went on two of his tours last year and asked him to take our family of three middle school aged children on a private walking tour of Amsterdam and the red light district. Both were perfect! We were amazed how easily Michael could speak to young children about such hard topics as prostitution and pot. These guys are smart and eloquent - their tours are small. It is a great experience

My husband and I joined Michael for the Jordaan culinary walking tour on a Wednesday and then the Sex & Drugs Red Light District tour on the following Thursday. These trips made our experience! The weather was absolute crap during our visit and without these tours we probably would have wanted to just stay inside and sleep. We stayed in the Jordaan, so the food tour was a great way for us to visit our neighborhood and experience some delicious food. The red light district tour was more than I could have ever imagined and due to our experience, OMY has created a whole new tour (sex, drugs, & drink). BOOK THIS TOUR! My husband and I experienced parts of the red light district we would have NEVER experienced without this tour. We felt like we were hanging out in Amsterdam with a friend, it was wonderful. So wonderful that I have booked the Sex, Drugs, & Drink tour for me and my friend who is visiting in June!

Thank you for your review of our Food Tour. Thank you also for inspiring the Sex, Drugs and Drinks tour. Sometimes the best feedback is simple. You made us see this. Presently the Sex, Drugs and Drinks Red Light Tour is nor our most popular Red Light Tour!!! We look forward to your return later in the year. Thank you for the review and the inspiration.

OMY Amsterdam Review

Dec 30, 2014, 6:47 PM

On our recent visit to Amsterday before our Viking cruise, we booked Omy Amsterdam Tours to show us all we could see in a day. We are happy to share our tour with you and will also recommend them to anyone.

Omy is a small company operated by two outstanding people: Kieren and Michael. Both were immensely helpful with my many questions via email. They responded to each and every email with lots of enthusiasm and great suggestions. We were very lucky to have Michael assigned to escort us on our tour. He is a fabulous young man with a great personality and knows his stuff!!!

An overview of our day included the following:

- Pick up from cruise terminal 10:30 a.m.

- Walk to old city centre

- Understanding of Amsterdam buildings and canals

- Visit to Rembrandthuis Museum

- Visit to local Amsterdam cafe for coffee break

- Visit to Tuschinski Cinema

- Amsterdam floating flower market

- Beguinhof (courtyard of sisters)

- Amsterdam museum

- Heineken story

- 17th century World Heritage Canal Area

- Cafe de Prins for lunch

- Dam square, Royal Palace, National Monument

- Red Light District tour

-We wanted to do a "sunset" canal cruise but the next boat we could board wouldn't be until 7:00(and it was 6:00 and we were pooped so Michael escorted us back to the ship) What a fun-filled, busy day!

We had also booked separately the Anne Frank House Tour and Michael brought us there and waited patiently while we toured the same. Michael rejoined us and we continued to visit the city and take in all that we possibly could.

One of Michael’s many gifts was to know how to read when we were tired or hungry and took us to great places for a drink and/or bite – local favorites which we truly enjoyed and the cost didn’t break the bank. Heck, the Café de Prins for lunch came to US$21 for the three of us to eat and each have a beer or wine…great place! We also went to several shops offering great samples of the various cheeses found there - all were yum and free!

Michael also showed us several "coffee shops" along the way but we chose not to partake...too old...LOL

The red light district was interesting and Michael had some great stories to share here as well.

As a small company Omy relies on word of mouth so sharing our wonderful day will hopefully make many of you reading this decide to give them a “go”! You will not be disappointed - just go!

Thank you for your review of your Omy Private bespoke tour of Amsterdam. Taking a river cruise from Amsterdam can often leave you with little time in our city. We provided you a full schedule and then personalised the tour depending on how you and your travelling companions were feeling on the day. We aim to provide the best Private tours of Amsterdam. Thank you. Regards, Kieren

We booked onto this tour the day before and received an e-mail confirmation. However, the guide didn't show up. We waited nearly half an hour and then left. We were definitely in the right place, and someone else was waiting too.

We had to give our phone number as part of the booking process, but no one called to say they were running late or that the tour was cancelled.

The confirmation e-mail had a cell phone number. I tried calling a couple of times while we were waiting but only got the answerphone. I left messages, but it's now been 24 hours and still no one has called back.

All of this is unacceptable.

We were only in Amsterdam for a short time, and to have a morning wasted in this way was extremely frustrating.

We are deeply sorry for the circumstance you found yourself at our tour. To be a traveler, in an unfamiliar place and not have a guide show up creates anxiousness and stress. As a company of 5 years we pride ourselves in high quality personal tours. We aim to add to travelers time in Amsterdam andwe failed in this instance. We are sincerely apologetic for detracting from you short time in our small city . Your situation was a management mistake. I did not send a guide to your tour. Our back up system of telephoning us was not available for that day as my phone was broken It has taken a few days to replace this phone. The combination of these two issues meant we could not respond quickly to our mistake. We have worked to overcome this problem. Now we have instituted a management system where all of our guides now have full access to the booking calendar. All guides now see the bookings so that this mistake will not happen again. I have sent a personal email of apology with an offer to recompense you, family or friends on a regular tour at our expense. As a small business this is a small but sincere token of our apology. We are a business of 5 years and 4 people. We have long record of assisting travelers to high quality experiences in our city. We are sincerely apologetic we did not meet standard in your circumstance.

Originally from the UK but living here in Amsterdam, we have friends visiting frequently.
We had a really interesting tour with Bas, the guy is a legend. Found out a lot about my neighbourhood and our friends got to try some Dutch food and beers. Would definitely recommend and do the tours again with other visitors from home.

Meeting Michael is like reconnecting with an old family friend. Mike, My wife and I hit it off right away. We was able to fulfill our craving of seeing the touristy sights of Amsterdam proper as well as the off then beaten trail shops and historical hidden gems.

I highly recommend Michael for his down to earth nature as he is considerate, well versed about the city's history and well travelled. I would do it all again in a heartbeat!

I have been interested in Design my whole life. For me it was interesting to come across this design tour in my own city. A friend and me went on the tour and loved it. Some things I new but many things were new. Denise was our guide. Her background is fashion. As a local she could switch between Dutch and English for both of us. The tour covered interior design, fashion and print. I appreciated the most learning about the history of the typefaces that cover the city like on bridges and bars. These things I see everyday and never thought about the design history. If you have an interest in design this a unique and interesting tour. A good day out.

Thank you for taking our Dutch Design Tour. This is one of our Speciality Tours run by specialist guides. Exploring the city can be done in different ways. Understanding the wealth of design in fashion, font, print and architecture is a fascinating and different way to see our little city. Thank you for your review.

This was one of the most insightful tours I have ever been part of; rich in content and well organized. I would still have read about the history of Amsterdam, but I would not have had the privilege of picking out the important aspects of the town and what they mean to The Dutch. That was putting a personal touch to such a very rich History.
Not to forget that the tour was well guided and punctual!

Thank you for taking our Omy Private City Centre Tour. We are always happy to accommodate international guests that have business with the international organizations in The Hague. It was a pleasure to spend the little amount of free time you had to explore Amsterdam.

My work colleagues and I were in the Hague in February 2015 for a week long meeting. Coming from Africa, Kenya, it was very cold for us at between 5 and 7. naturally all instincts dictated that we keep work indoor! If we had gone by that, we would have missed a great moment touring the great sites around Amsterdam. We were linked up with Omy Amsterdam Tours, with Kieren who took us around explaining in wonderful expressions the experiences in Amsterdam. We felt like we re-lived the 16th Century through to 21st century! In short is was an awesome experience! While I was intrigued by among other the story of 'the root of stock exchange' my friend was attracted to the genesis of Heinkhein! We all took a photo at this point!

Spent a wonderful evening walking around the red light district with a very knowledgable guide. We learnt not just about the area, but other little quirky bits, like why some buildings lean forward. The walk was not fast, it was well planned. It was interesting to learn about the drugs and prostitution in relation to the country's history and its laws. Our guide was kind enough to walk us back in the direction of our accomodation and made some excellent recommendations for cafes and coffee shops.
