A very interesting insight into Rembrandts house and life. I love art and some of the pieces were amazing and loved the set up in the room he did his art in. They offer a free audio tour. We didn't do it but if you want more detail and to spend a bit longer there then do the audio tour.... More

If the life and times of this Great Artist interest you, then a visit to "Museum Het Rembrandthuis" (on Jodenbreestraat, in the "Old Jewish Quarter"), is a "must" - of course, if you want to view some of Rembrandt's major works, then a separate visit to the Rijksmuseum is essential. From the street, this restored three-storey canal house is immediately... More

This is a must see when in Amsterdam and gives you an appreciation of the life of the artist Like most great artists of his time he had no wealth in his life and actually went bankrupt, only after death did recognition and wealth arrive

A nice house which showed a glimpse of the past. If struggling for time then there are probably better sights to see first. Nice café opposite for lunch and a beer.

Printing demonstration was presented by a very enthusiastic young Lady, and we so enjoyed that. Liked everything but the stairs to reach the apartments, but was happy to see that it was a lift down from top !

See the half-hour film first, then explore Rembrandt's home. Interesting to see the personal items that influenced many of his paintings.

I felt like I learned so much by taking the self guided audio tour of the Rembrandt House. We took the bus to get there and did take the audio headsets to learn more about what we were looking at. Very informative and then there was a guide that showed us his paints and how he did some of his... More

The house is so rich with Rembrandt's paintings and pieces of his furnitures are well kept for us to adore. With the I Amsterdam Pass, we get to visit this for free as well as free audio guide. Be careful with climbing up, the stairs are a bit steep. I love that hey have free classes for the artist wannabes... More

the Rembrandt House was an unexpected pleasure. My wife and I visited in April, and we placed it in our itinerary after arriving from an overnight flight. I didn't expect to spend much time here so thern I could return to our b&b and go to bed! What a surprise. We enjoyed over two hours of delightful information and a... More

Not only you get to see the house where Rembradt lived, but you get the chance to see how where the houses during his time, how they lived. And also some paintings by Rembrandt.

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
