I live nearby--area used to have cute shops and nice restaurants. Has become full of icky chains, sad lost tourists and the good restaurants have all closed. To be avoided as it is packed and miserable.

The Negen Straatjes (Nine little streets) is an area teeming with little shop, bars, restaurants and terraces. There is really no need to plan anything, just go! It still has a mostly 'Amsterdam atmosphere to it, and you could spend all day walking in and out mostly privately owned (much nicer to talk to the owner then to a random... More

Fabulous shopping for that unusual gift or cool clothing. Wolvenstraat has the best Burgermeester. Great lighting fixture store, vintage clothing & second hand store Laura Dolls is a find.

Let me start by saying that my wife and I had a great time strolling the 9 streets, window shopping, stopping for lunch, and taking photos of the architecture and people. It was quite fun. I would recommend it and I would go back for more. But the area is heavily billed at THE SHOPPING AREA to go to in... More

I was very excited to take my wife on a shopping expedition after breakfast before our Anne Frank house tour at 1330. However, it seemed that none of these shops were open on a Monday morning before noon! So, sadly, I can't review these well as they weren't open during our trip.

There was the occasional unique shop to browse in, but really the area is full of the major chains, and multiple versions of those shops as well in a very small area. Still, it was a pleasant stroll in the sunshine on our way to a number of the tourist sights within easy walking of Central.

Forget the well known shops that can be found in every city. Here you find unique clothes designed by young talents and all kinds of other stuff. Don't forget to drink a beer in cafe De Pels!

Honestly, my expectation of a shopping experience in Amsterdam wasn't set very high and yet it fail to hit my low expectations. The 9 streets are really a collection of some decent boutiques selling all sort of things. There's a couple nice F&B outlets, some designer clothing stores and that's about it. It really lack the character or the concentration... More

Wandering past these often unusual shops is one of the joys of visiting Amsterdam. I'm not a shopper, but the goods on sale here are so unusual and unexpected thatI can't help wandering through this area.
