One of the three main canals, dug in the 17th century during the Dutch Golden Age, form concentric belts around the city.

We walked along Prinsengracht, Keizergracht and Herengracht a couple days ago. Very pretty canals with lots of photo ops. Nice shops and cafes. My teenage girls were ecstatic to find the bench from the key scene in "The Fault in the Stars" movie and I...More

We stayed at the Pulitzer Hotel on this canal, and it was a delight to be able to get out in the mornings and walk along its sidewalks and bridges.

When weather is good one can spend days on the canals, strolling shopping and sipping a drink watching boats pass by. Check out the 'negen straatjes' area between singel and prinsengracht which is full of trendy boutiques. Enjoy!

I enjoyed the afternoon stroll along the Prinsengracht Canal. I stopped and toured the Anne Frank House. You can purchase tickets for a boat road on the canal at a shop at the endvof the block on which the Anne Frank House is located.

Our hotel was at one end of the Prisengracht and it provided a great way of orienting yourself and moving along through the different parts of the, past shops, restaurants and tourist attractions. Worth walking along to look at the range of houses and warehouses

A lovely canal with picturesque houses on either side of it. We visited an antique shop which sells coffee and juices. The best coffee in Amsterdam from Italy. A lovely place to wander along and relax at your own pace, watch out for the bikes...More

Looking back on our time in Amsterdam, many visuals come to mind, I photographed the canals over and over. They are interesting to shop, walk, dine , cross over the bridges and so beautiful in the different lights of the amsterdam sky.

Both the canal and the street wrap around the city center on the west, south and east. The Jordaan, where we stayed for a week on house boat in mMay, is in the west, Great neighborhood location.

A great walking city. Very safe. My teenage nieces walks on their own even deep in the night. If pickpocketting reaches the evening news, it says enough about the city. Have fun in amazing amsterdam.
