Neighborhood: Centrum
Amsterdam’s buzzing hub, with its sprawling network of tram rails and a seemingly constant flow of tourists and commuters, yields convenient access to some of the best sightseeing, shopping, and street life in Europe. Closest at hand are the Royal Palace, the quaint shops of Haalremmerdijk, the pedestrianized zones Kalverstraat and Dam Square with popular neighborhoods such as the Red Light District, and the Canal Ring hardly more than a moment’s stroll away. With the well-connected Centraal Station as Centrum’s base, it's easy to travel farther afield via one of the city’s iconic trams.

Elandsgracht is a street in Jordaan District just past Prinsengracht. The street is lined with retail shops, restaurants, cafes, supermarkets and other service providers.

You'll find the Houseboat Museum in Prinsengracht next to Johnny Jordaanplein along Elandsgracht. At Johnny Jordaanplein, there are five bronzes commemorate 20th-century Dutch musicians Manke Neilis (far left), Tante Leen (left-centre), Johnny Jordaan (center), Johny Meyer (right-centre) as well as couple Mien and Jan Froger (far right).

While spending time along Elandsgracht, we had a nice lunch at Burger Meester and purchased two nice cheeses at Kaashuis Tromp, which they were able to vacuum-seal so that we could bring back home. The cheeses tasted nice, warranting future visits.

In the end, many nice places to visit in the Jordaan District. Elandsgracht is simply one of them.

A cosy, high quality but affordable antique, vintage & curiosities market with a great variety of items offered by very experienced and specialised sellers.
Open every Sunday from 11.00-16.30h at the Claverhuis, Elandsgracht 70, Jordaan area, Amsterdam.
Here you can find anything from unique vintage and antique jewellery, watches, accessories, home decoration and curiosities. Interesting items for every taste and budget. All in manageable sizes, so very easy to purchase and bring home as a nice souvenir from Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
The location has a bar offering various non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages for affordable prices.
At walking distance of the famous Nine Streets area in the Jordaan, Leidseplein, and bus/tram station Marnixstraat/Elandsgracht.

Elandsgracht is a lovely locale for visitors to Amsterdam. Close to public transport, walking distance from CBD, and close to the scenic Presingracht canal. The history of the Jordaan district was part of the expansion of Amsterdam in the 17th century, and a home to potters, painters and leather workers. It was a poor district for workers and immigrants. Industrialisation placed these workers into poverty, and it was worse during the occupation in WWII. The whole place was redeveloped in the 70's, and a new generation of occupants moved in - artists, students, entrepreneurs, and they gave the area the flavour it has today - alive, buzzing and a great place to hang out. Great little eateries as well - definitely worth a stroll, or a stay.

In the 1950's this was my playground. There was a cinema called The Edison. Since the 1990's it has developed into a shopping street, the cinema has been demolished. Now since a few months the street has undergone a total make-over. The parking spaces in the middle haved disappeared the big old trees have made way for new smaller trees. The pedestrian areas have been widened. I still frequent the street to do my shopping. Koopman's for fine coldcuts, they serve excellent breadrolls with for example cookedliver and pastrami a so called "broodje half-om" a genuine Amsterdam delicacie. Het Vlaams Broodhuys has a variety of excellent breads daily baked fresh. Tromps cheese shop has a wide variety of cheeses such as gouda and edam and a wide range of french cheeses. For Parking your car i recommend the Europarking on the Marnixstraat only a minute away from the Elandsgracht.

Interesting buildings line Elandsgracht, which used to be a canal at one point but is now filled-in to allow for a kiddie park and walking area with landscaping. There are many restaurants, shops, and stores to be found along several blocks of this street.

This street is typical of the Jordaan district with lots of cafes and some interesting antique and clothing shops.

There is a nice little park with statues commemorating Dutch musicians.

Quaint little shops, an AH supermarket, a cool pub on the corner of the Prinsengracht and, of course, the epic Jordaan folk singers monument, a great place to sit, watch the statues, chill out, watch the world pass by. Cool street, nice visit.

This is a really nice street with a great variety of shops and restaurants. Right in the middle of de Jordaan neighbourhood. Although now under construction, just walk around. For fashion: I like Baskets and Tenue de Nimes, For a great bowl of noodles Fou Fow Ramen (try the vegetarian) and then off to the Nine Streets for more of Amsterdam.
