We walked through this area on the way to Noordermarkt. The houses are very picturesque and the shops and cafes are nice.

Jordaan is quite a nice area to visit, especially in a sunny day. If not, there's plenty of cafes where you can go to enjoy apple cake and more. In summer you can also find nice ice-cream places...

We stayed in The Jordann Area by recommendation from a friend. Good recommendation. This was right up our alley for what we like to do when we travel... There are tons of little cafes, bars, boutiques and there is a market on Saturday and Monday that we walked through for both days. It is definitely a hipster / trendsetter neighborhood.... More

We had local guide that showed us this area in Amsterdam. Cozy narrow brick buildings in colours from the rainbow. Interesting story around why some houses are painted black. Well worth a goggle search to find out. Bring map when you walk around in Amsterdam or have loads of data on your mobile phone 😊

This was such a nice area, full of bo Ho shops, cafes and eating places, this is most certainly a better area than the main drag and Dam square, more lay back and convivial, but saying that, the Dutch are not great at just joining in conversation. We were fortunate to have booked a hotel just adjacent to Jourdaan, which... More

We were here mid winter and really enjoyed just wandering around the streets - great atmosphere, interesting shops, good restaurants and a really good market (the Westermarkt) on the Saturday. The canals and the architecture are so different from home. Just a good place to be.

Love the warren of streets and drinking with the locals in bars that are steeped in history. The food served is of better quality and value than many in the tourist centre. Some great specialist shops and galleries also.

Lovely genuine area in the canal district of Amsterdam! Spend a half day here and don't miss The Nine Streets!

Staying in Jordaan

Neighborhood Profile
One of Amsterdam’s most preferred outdoor markets and some of the city’s favorite watering holes are but two of the many reasons to save ample time for a stroll through this especially convivial warren of narrow streets with its unfair share of quirky shops and quality galleries. Historically a haven for the working class and emigrants, these days the Jordaan is better known as an enclave for artists and designers. As popular as the Jordaan is as a destination for locals and out-of-towners alike, the area never feels particularly touristy or overrun with outsiders. A highlight even for long-time Jordaan residents, be sure to accept any invitation to step within one of the area’s beloved courtyards or to have a sneak peek inside one of its many working studios.
