We spent a month in Europe, including Paris , and this was our favorite museum. Great layout, well organized and easy to attack with our pre-bought timed tickets/

I love this museum. It has a magnificent collection. Next to the Museum of Modern Art i(MOMA) in New York City, it's my favorite.

We bought tickets online and had them ready on my phone. On arrival we walked almost to the head of the queue before seeing any indication we had to join a line. We had walked the length of this line, so by the time we were aware, it had grown significantly longer. The 'hosts' rudely told us we were not... More

Both my husband, not as avid a Van Gogh (pronounced Van-Ga) fan as I am, and I loved this museum. So well done, so much to see, so much to the artist we didn't know. The museum is well laid out/easy to navigate and while crowded was manageable. Make sure you buy your tickets online weeks in advance (reserve the... More

Most people reviewed this low in response to long queues. We had a 10 am time slot on a Monday on 7th Sept with tickets we had purchased on line about 2 months ago. There were queues but not for pre purchased tickets - walked straight in. Has cloakroom ( those with large backpacks have to use it ). The... More

GREAT MUSEUM, specially if you are a Van Gogh geek. Make sure to purchase the tickets on one day in advanced minimum, if you buy it there it'll take you a while to get in

We spent nearly the entire day at this great museum; a tribute to Van Gogh and those people, including his friends and family, who influenced him. When we arrived at our entry time (had purchased tickets on-line before leaving the States), I discovered to my dismay, that I had brought the wrong musem ticket printouts. But never fear, a helpful... More

Selected paintings are marginal but with the intent of sketching the evolution of the artist. However the poor lighting and crowded rooms made difficult reading the explanations and view the paintings. I felt almost no emotion for the art or for the history.

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighborhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
