We arrived at the museum & there was a long queue so we left & walked toward the Riksmuseum & saw a ticket office where we could buy tickets for immediate entry which we duly did . A very interesting experience if you're a fan of the artist or not.

Wonderful layout, presentation of artworks. Appreciated knowing about those artists that influenced him. Easy museum to navigate. Two staff a bit snippy when asked for directions, otherwise welcoming. Get tickets online to avoid the line.

You really do have to go to the museum itself as i believe it is the only way to fully feel the painting, you wont understand if you cant see the pain and happiness in most of his art. There are elevators for the physically challenge, So no worries in that department, And seats for those whom are tired from... More

Don't miss this museum while in Amsterdam. Try to get tickets on line and avoid the excessive queue. Know when the busy times are and avoid these as well. Best advice is to get a on line ticket with a time at 0900 when the museum opens. The line was quite long even at that time waiting to get a... More

As the museum with the most paintings by Van Gogh, this museum ought to attract many tourist, and it does! The queue was very long, but if you have museum card, you can enter right away. You cannot take pictures inside the museum, so it is a bit disappointing, but this way you are expected to focus your attention to... More

Museum Night (Naght) in Amsterdam is the first Saturday of November. We were excited to wander the Van Gogh Museum at night. We took our time and really enjoyed a lot of paintings we hadn't seen before. Having only known a few of his famous works, I was curious how I might like the others. Turns out his most famous... A great place to go to. The art work is fantastic. Second time I've been to the museum. €17 on the door and a long queue but worth the wait if you love Van Gogh or Munch.

My husband and I were a bit disappointed in the Van Gogh Museum because of the lack of his well-known paintings. The time frame was interesting but tooo many not-so-interesting paintings. The Much:Van Gogh show was outstanding.

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighborhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
