Enjoyed a wonderful few hours exploring the collection here and learning about the artist's life and painting technique, influences, friends etc. My only caveat was that it was a little confusing as one started on each floor, to see which direction to walk around. Forgot to take the small guide which presumably would have helped but this doesn't usually matter... More

An excellent building for a very large collection of Van Gogh's works which have been put into historical perspective with many works of his contemporaries and friends. Note: Queues to get in can be long, so it's worth booking in advance or getting there at opening time. Once in the museum, the works are well displayed to give visitors a... More

Second trip to see van goghs work. He was an exceptional artist. The new layout for entry and exit works well. It's good value for money.

Absolutely stunning experience.Needed plenty more time. The whole arrangement inside the museum was excellent.Plan your day in advance and go early so you have ample time for all paintings.

I wish I had pictures to share. Unfortunately, one isn't allowed to take pictures inside the museum. Inside, escape into the mind of a creative genius. Van Gogh was self taught, though he did take a few classes. Major exhibition on the life and times of this gifted artist and who influenced him throughout his career. At one point, he... More

A beautiful museum...the display is very well done, the narrative is interesting, and the lighting terrific. The only negative...the crowd! Oh, and the baby strollers!

I loved Van Gogh during art history classes in school so a trip to this museum was a must. Although this was one of the busiest attractions I went to in Amsterdam it was well worth it just to see the potato eaters. The museum does a nice job of telling the story of Vincent and should also have a... More

Great museum to see everything about this legend- his history, early paintings, famous paintings and inventions. Great for young and old alike.

This museum has one of the most impressive and well laid out collections for its very manageable size. I had no idea how prolific Van Gogh was in such a short period of time being an artist, nor did I know many of the other interesting facts about the man, his life, his work, his influences (also on display) and... Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighborhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
