The area
Neighborhood: Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.

A very picturesque park, we cycled the length and back at around 5pm when it seems all the locals were using the park as a cut through commute.
Be warned that it is not easy to stop in order to see the art pieces because of how busy it is. We had to ride way out of the way to then turn around and cycle on the opposite side as there was just no way to stop and cross safely.

Vondelpark is an amazing location to walk, cycle or relax on the grass or on the benches found all over the place.

Lots of people gather there to play music, hang out together, practice sports and what not.

We highly recommend you to rent a bike and to cycle along the paths in the park, as some of them hide beautiful secrets like statues, plants and flower gardens.

We stopped here most nights before heading back to our hotel. It's always bustling with folks taking a ride or a walk, while simultaneously feeling spacious. Nice mix of shady, sunny, ponds and forested areas. Keep an look out for the flock of green ring neck parrots while you're there.

Vondelpark is a lovely oasis in the middle of a very busy city. On the day we visited, the north end was much more crowded and busy than the south end. There are some restaurants, play areas, and areas to relax. We saw some shore birds and the plant life is diverse and very pretty. There are wide walking and biking paths. We enjoyed the hour we spent here.

We enjoyed a long leisurely walk through Vondelpark and enjoyed the people watching, the music playing, those riding bikes, doing organized fitness routines and classes and those using this luscious, clean, safe, beautiful public thoroughfare to bisect neighborhoods in the city. Really felt like a calm oasis for all. Highly recommend a visit.

This is a very large park with a winding lake (or series of lakes) in the middle and lots of green niches that can absorb thousands of people without feeling overcrowded. We were there on a sunny day and had the most tranquil, relaxing time just sitting there and feeding the ducks. We did not buy anything at the cafes so I cannot speak about those, and we were not there after dark so I cannot comment on how it is then. But on a sunny day it's just lovely.

Nice park for a stroll, though watch out for the bikes! This is clearly a major pathway used by cyclists to avoid the streets and have a bit of a pretty ride through the city and there are bikes coming at you from every direction, so definitely not the less hectic stroll that one can have through a city park like London's Hyde Park or New York's Central Park.

It is also much smaller and narrower than some such parks, clocking in at little more than a mile from top to bottom (and quite narrow). No big fields for playing football or cricket, no massive bodies of water that one can boat around, no museums in the park - just an attractive walkabout through wooded areas with some water features. In a city as beautiful as Amsterdam itself, a park like this does not add terribly much.

This is a beautiful park, and a real treat to walk around. But, I will pass this warning to travellers; If you intend on visiting the park, make sure you have relieved yourself prior to going, and make sure you carry some drinks, especially in the warmer seasons!

My wife and I really enjoy this park, but a lack of W.C and only a handful of concession stands, it can become a chore to really make the most of it.

On a nice sunny day it's great, but if you stay hydrated, you'll likely be caught short here, to my knowledge there is only the central cafe that has any facilities and, a lot of the time it is packed to the rafters in good weather/in-season. If there are other conveniences, I've certainly not seen any signs for such, nor was google maps forthcoming.

This one bugbear of a problem spoils the appeal of the park for me, which is a real shame as it is great to simply lay out on the grass and absorb the world, the park is often busy, but I've always found visiting to be a very peaceful and enjoyable experience.

We decided to take on the challenge of biking around the city and we came across Vondelpark which is just so beautiful. I could not stop looking around at how this park was even real. We were able to find a cute little bar in the middle of the bar for some snacks & drinks. Just a heads up, when the sun goes down more and more people do go to the park on bikes so just keep a look out for on coming traffic.

On a sunny day we decided to rent bike and ride at this enormous and beautiful park. The surrounding are amazing, small lakes are spread along the park, ducks are swimming and if you are lucky enough you can see more animal near the buches. We did a nice break from the ride at a small cafe in the center of the park and we enjoyed our coffee near the lake with the swans.
