The museum is one of the work's greatest. A trip to Amsterdam is not complete without a visit. Buy your ticket online in advance. They are not timed, so you can still go when you want. The ten-year long renovation which was recently completed produced mixed results. The starkly modern lobby is not welcoming (particularly with the strangely sloping floor... More

Nice big museum with many of the dutch masters. A definite must in Amsterdam and less crowded than the Anne Frank House or the Van Gogh Museum. But DO NOT eat at the restaurant outside of the museum on the grounds…it's really awful!

Spent a whole day in the museum and still did not see everything. Absolutely amazing paintings, sculptures, ceramics, silverware, miniature ships etc etc. The time flew by. Had lunch in the cafe which was lovely. Soooo recommend a visit.

The Rembrandt collection was nice. Everything else was pretty much like any national museum with alot of paintings from the golden age and romantism. It was okay but a little boring. If you only have time (and money and there is no student discount) I would reccomend Van Gogh Museum.

It is not the usual boring museum as it was diverse in its displays. It has paintings on its walls as well as other art in the form of paintings and sculptures. I really enjoyed the painting "Fishing for Souls" by van de Venne. Although I spent a morning there, I could have stayed longer if I had the time.

The rijksmuseum is enormeous and offers an amazing art collection!!! I loved the art works and was astounded by the beautiful displays especially by the most famous Dutch painters, such as Rembrandt and Vermeer!!! Make time for a long and enjoyable stay.

According to the tour guide that we have, it took 10 years to finish this museum, but they did an amazing job. They arranged the museum in a way that allows patrons to organized there visit to see what they want to see. Great visit.

Staying in Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)

Neighborhood Profile
Museum Quarter (Museumkwartier)
Top sites to see in this attractive and affluent part of town include the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum, to name but two of the highly acclaimed museums of the aptly named Museum Quarter. And if you need a break from all the fantastic art, there’s the Neoclassical Concertgebouw music hall and Vondelpark, the city’s largest park. Shopaholics and luxury brand connoisseurs will love exploring the high-end shopping destinations of PC Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, Cornelis Schuytstraat, and Jacob Obrechtstraat, where even the shop window displays are of museum quality. In the evenings, when the museums close and the daytrippers head home, the area becomes a quiet oasis of calm with a sophisticated and urbane tone.
