I was looking for place to play pool without that "we are so hip" mentality. Found it in de Gracht! 14 full sized tables and excellent players without capsones. Nice local beer collection on a canal side location. They keep a challenge table for those walking in alone and brave. Look out for Ali! He will take your money but... More

Maybe my brother and I were unlucky, but we came here and it wasn't very lively. Which isn't a bad thing cause you don't have to wait to get a pool table. We came here to play pool and that's what we got, but if you're looking for a nice place to hang out and play pool on the side... More

It is close to the university. We like to go there after classes. Friendly staff, spacious, many tables. Maybe need to queue during weekends evening. So come during the happy hours!

I am an ex pat in Amsterdam, I have been playing in the Gracht for the past 6 years. I have always been made to feel welcome. Excellent staff, good tables, and friendly locals. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Amsterdam and fancy a rack or 10 :)

I do not play pool and this to me was a first. I've loved it!! It's a big, somewhat divy place on a canal, with something like twenty tables. As soon as we entered this beautiful bottle of laphroaig triple wood started smiling at me (we later discovered that the owner had personally fetched in Edinburgh) and that alone scores... More

We visit Poollokaal De Gracht a few times a year, usually with a group of 10 people. The atmosphere is really good. Tables are clean, cues are straight, you can pick the songs and for smokers there is a room in the back. But most importantly the staff is amazing. Every time we've been there we had absolutely great service... More

The waitresses are stunning and keep you ordering the great local beers. The level of play is excellent so one can always find a money game. If you want to loose money, ask for Ali!

I organised a pool competition for a group of us who were visiting Amsterdam on a stag party. It's a lovely place, with high quality tables and ques. To top it off, they have their sound system hooked up to an app that let's you choose the music! Definitely worth a visit.

This is a great pool hall with plenty of quality tables, friendly staff and locals. Prices for tables and beer are very good, with a smoking room, card tables and darts boards perfect for your pub sportsman. With Satellite TV, you will usually get 1 or 2 of the big games on too!

Compared to the pool halls you'd get in the UK, this is by far the best I've ever been to. House cues are all straight, the 7ft tables are all very good with no lean and cloths are all in good condition. Service is excellent and doesn't suffer from that dingy, threatening atmosphere you sometimes get in the UK. Plenty... More

Staying in Plantage & the East

Neighborhood Profile
Plantage & the East
The eastern edge of central Amsterdam provides visitors with the chance to imagine the city that Rembrandt called home (and to tour his historic house) while shopping like the thriftiest of locals at Waterlooplein’s massive flea market, or even enjoying a craft beer beside the tallest wooden windmill in The Netherlands. This verdant, serene, and stately part of town is home to Artis Royal Zoo, one of Europe’s oldest (and still best kept) zoos, and Hortus Botanicus, one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It's also an ideal setting for the Dutch outpost of St Petersburg’s Hermitage.
